Hi all...this is a completed painting of one of the watercolors I began on location at Amelia Island. We were painting and sketching at the driftwood beach. Actual size 12x16, Canson paper in block form.

I call it "Charred" because it took on the form of a tree scarred by the axe, and a landscape charred by fire...a reminder of man's sacrifice of the landscape to the god of progress.

Well stated in both word and brush

First I have to tell that I like the colors, and second I like the way the colors are leading me and keeping me in the painting. My eyes came from the down right then started climbing the tree and... turned to the right to the little bush and came back to the tree. Mesmerizing!

Yes, I agree with Anne-Claire, there is a lot of movement of the eyes within the painting .. it keeps you there :) Very nice :)

Carly, I have been using the Canson block. Do you notice any difference between this paper and the Arches paper. I'll soon be in the market for a new supply and I was wondering if I should switch brands. Mary

Thank you to everyone for your comments!

Mary, I have noticed that the Canson doesn't seem to have as much sizing as the arches brand. I have enjoyed using it for the convenience of on location painting, but as far as paper goes...I love full sheets in the studio! I guess it comes down to personal need and preference.
