View Full Version : Thursday 8/26/ Show and Tell

Well, I don't typically jump in and start the thread, but I've been up nearly 48 hours and I am going to SLEEP soon. I hope.

First up is a Hallowe'en Button Hollow. A real bear to photograph with all the transparency, reflection and refraction. Any pointers on getting better shots of beads like this? Black core, clear hollow with opaque flattened dots or "buttons":

Here's my Elphaba vessel. Blown Moretti with with rune markings, winged handles and bottom flourish. I LOVE THIS ONE. I have made several attempts at this, only to fail. Happy to finally have an intact one:

Finally, a Kaleidoscopic Hollow:

They're all great, but I love that vessel! It looks a little bigger than your usual. What size is it?

Tink Sweetheart,
You are tired.
Did you want to start this in the Showcase forum???
LOL, ;)

08-26-2004, 01:28 AM
*sigh* Yeah... I PM'd BJ about it, but she couldn't do anything.

Someone come tuck me in, bring me some cookies and milk, and tell me a story... I'm a friggin' zombie here.

08-26-2004, 01:29 AM
Oh TINK! Your vessel is just to die for! Perfectly "halloweeny", but wearable other times too! You have such a gift for form and color!.. :o Emabarrased to have my posts just following yours, but I NEVER get in at the start of a S&T...and thus, never get any constructive critiscism! Not going to make any progress w/o any input folks!
Two very different things to share. First is a set I posted earlier, but got no comments on...Juicy Blackberries!
*( Confession...lol, I copied God on this one!)*
Second is a set which brings to mind my college studies of the expressive decorative arts in the Ancient Mesopotamian Valley region...Has that Persian/ Etruscan feel....maybe not so technically perfect, but very close to what I set out to achieve design-wise!
P.S. Sorry for the scuddy scanned pictures!...Hopefully I'll have a nice camera in less than a month! Till then, I'll pray for your eyes!

The kaleidoscope Rocks!!!!!!!!!

Your work is awesome!!!
Go to bed you crazy lady!!!!!!!!!

***Carrie, you must have posted while I was writing my previous post...

I really like your berries and flowers!
The other beads look goor too as far as I can see,
It is hard to see them clearly on the scan...

Poor thing,
Val will get it moved shortly, I'm sure.
Take care and DROP DEAD WORK girl!!!!
Worth any sleep you lost, remember....you can sleep when your dead.... That's my mantra.

I tend to go in spurts. And I was SO SICK last week! In bed all week long, sleeping all the time. It's like I don't wanna go back in that room. *shiver* I can feel myself fighting sleep. I am a Silly Wabbit :-)

Thanks for the nice comments you guys... Now to work on a Glinda vessel. I have some magic powder that I think I'll use on that one. Not a powder commonly available, and it gives truly magical effects!

I'm having a hard time joining this thread with my pitiful lentil bead. LOL! Incredible work you all!
Lots of silver foil and some frit stringer. Again.
It's another jumbo....

You people stay up WAY too late for me!! I know for sure Tink isn't online right now....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!! Here's what was in my kiln - while you guys were chatting away last night!

08-26-2004, 08:02 AM
Wow, Tink!

What in the heck am I doing up...it's almost 4am!!

Well I get to comment on these fabulous beads. The vessel is so perfect--I absolutely love it. (tdf as they say) I want

I love the kaleidoscope and the hollow, too.

You are super good at this!

Carrie, I think that blackberry set is wonderfully done! They really look like the flower and the fruit...very pretty & lovely

Josie--be proud--that's a great lentil! pretty :p

oops, Norma, almost missed you--what a great way to hang focals! I esp like that first bead...

08-26-2004, 08:46 AM
Thanks Beth and Briatha for reminding me about the structured Critiques! I am SOO Obtuse sometimes!...forgot about that option. Now, I just need to get a clearer photo.....
Wish everyone wasn't posting 'holiday" stuff...guess I know what direction I need to be taking this time of year! But it all is very nice! So kudos to you, the organized and in season ( bet I'm doiing Halloween after Christmas! LOL).
I Like the dark rich colors in that Silvered piece too! Mine have tended to be very light colors, unless they are encased in a dark trans....and looks like good size control with dots and stringer too! :) ...I have found the organics styles to be a great way to practice control...if I mess up, doesn't matter, because I'm just planning to melt and swirl it all sloppy anyway, right?!?!?

Oh my goodness - the talent here makes me want to buy beads instead of making them!!

I had to do a pendant for a donation to a local theater group, they wanted a gazing ball for a halloween play they are doing - I think I like the design so I made two here is one of them :).

Good golly... the last couple days of show & tells have been awesome!

I actually have some things to show today myself... and a favor to ask. I keep hearing that my photos are too dark... although they look great on my monitor. So this time, I've made them waaaaaay light on my monitor... can you tell me how they look to you all? Thanks!

Okay then... I spent all day yesterday playing with gaffer glass for the first time. LOVE it.. only wish it was easier to find. Also used that raku jitterbug frit... oh man, do I love that stuff! So the first photo is of three hollows...
And here are some of the other beads I finished...
And here are two shots of my favorite of the day... actually my favorite bead yet. I'm not so good at beads.

I also made some fishies... but I'll post them in a separate post. This glass stuff is SO MUCH FUN!!!
