Rice Paper. Any opinions on the stuff? I've been painting on it this past week and I find it challenging… but there is something wonderful about it at the same time. I've been loading my brush with paint and letting the color just sprawl across and I've also used a pointillist stroke as well.

Your right watercolor on rice paper is challenging. I think its good for washes and blending but not for detail. However I've had success with gouche on rice paper, and you can get considerable differences in detail that are hard to get with watercolor.
Hope this helps some

Thanks Shaver,
I am using gouache on it and I find it doesn’t spread as much.
Another question...What brand of rice paper are you using?

I took rice paper, crumpled it, then glued it to watercolor paper with acrylic medium...just pressing out the wrinkles lightly. Then I painted sunflowers on it very abstract. I loved the way the rice paper kept absorbing more of the color. I did a lot of layers on it with this technique. It's posted somewhere in the archives! I'll see if I can find it.

I use it as a collage with watercolour. Used in several of my entries in the Lighthouse Project. It is also great for saving a piece, by covering up mistakes.
