TheBlueBetween

A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: Themed Freeform Challenge
Project Leader: TheBlueBetween
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Jewelry
Medium: Mixed Media
Subject: Other
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

This is going to be fun! Pick a theme, pick out some beads, maybe some charms, maybe some rocks or odd or unusual things…a good chance to use up oddball left over beads or accumulated bead soup mixes… and start weaving it all together into something you can wear – a bracelet, necklace, earrings, belt, pin… whatever! Freeform weaving is great because it allows you the freedom to let the beads go where they want, to make mistakes and then make it look like it was meant to be that way… to add on and on and on. The hardest thing is knowing when to stop!

But stop you will, because on September 30th we will all unveil our little masterpieces! Finish whenever you like, but hold back the photo until September 30th!

This is a challenge, not an exchange. Why? Because I find I do my most creative work when it’s just for me – when I don’t have to worry about if someone else is going to like it or want to wear it. This is a very creative project – a challenge to push our own limits in one or more ways – without the pressure of making it for someone else.

This si so weird! I was up half the night thinking about a freeform bracelet & designing it in my head--I hate when that happens!! Then I just have to get it started or else it will haunt me in my dreams until I do! Does that happen to anyone else?

Yay!!! The idea came to me as I was making my chinese auction gift and feeling like I needed to do something super creative just for me for a change. Hope everyone has lots of fun with it - it's supposed to be fun! And I really think it's a great project for people who don't usually work with seed beads too!

(And Jodie, I don't think that's weird at all!)

Virginia,
It's a challenge.

Hey you guys - do you want to show photos in the studio area? Works-in-progress??? Or do you think that will take away from the grand unveiling? I'll leave it up to you :)

I personally would like to see WIP as I am struggling somewhat......!!???!! Although I will say that Juls tutorials are making sense of things that i'd wondered about. I do have a question - is peyote tube supposed to be slightly squashy or rigid??

It can be whatever you want it to be, depending on tension. If you want it really stiff, you can bead round something - cord, or tubing for example. :)

Hi Tam, Lynne is right - it can be whatever you want it to be - tension will control how stiff it is though.

If you are stuck somewhere, maybe post a picture and ask for help?

Hope you are having fun with it!

pam and lynne - i posted my wip in the progress area - there are two sections where i used peyote tube and both have slight give even tho the second section i tried to make thinner hoping that it might be stiffer. i'm using nymo d on this piece - should i wax it?

 I finally picked out my theme! Typical for me, I was browsing books at the book store and one of the titles suggested it to me. Now just to figure out how to make it look like it...

Okay - so i have been doing a lot of practicing with this seed bead stitching -but my actual free-form piece is behaving badly and will not do what it's told! i have been working on this piece that is heavily influenced by a necklace in the beaddreams - it is not really 'woven' as much as twisty-loosey-goosey....does this fit the perimetres of the challenge?

Oh good - I figured life got in the way for everyone (including me) and that everyone must have forgotten.

Should we extend the deadline or just say post when done?

Tam what a georgeous piece. I can't believe I've missed seeing this and it has just been waiting for someone to admire it. It is very original. Do you ever wear it? We have a local art fair called the St. James Art Fair in October. This would be perfect to wear to that show. All the wearable art artists wear their most wonderful pieces

How about you others that posted that you had something or were making something. You could post it now so we would all have more pretties to look at.

Have a fun and productive day,
