I am looking for a source for some 3 to 5mm silk cord to hang pendants on. I know it is out there somewhere, because I have some pieces that I bought with the cord as the support. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Places that sell trims and tassel making supplies might have it, or possibly under bookbinding ( I know that looks weired !). There are some pretty good polyester cords too, look almost as good as silk. Fiona

I've already checked my local sewing centers. The only cording they have has an overlap to be sewn between other material like on couches. I am looking for some place online to buy the cord.

Are you wanting a smooth silk looking cord like Rat Tail (http://www.firemountaingems.com/shopping.asp?skw=KWCORDRAT), which is a satin polyester cord, or do you want a twisted silk cord (http://www.trimsplus.com/categories/cording.html)?
The Rat Tail link goes to Fire Mountain Gems. The twisted silk cord link is to trimplus.com but I'm not sure the cords are silk they may only be synthetic. You'd have to contact trimplus.com to be sure.
I did find a lot of imported necklaces on silk cord, probably exactly the kind of cord you are looking for but I couldn't find a supplier of this cord by-the-yard.

Thank you, Barbara. Trimsplus had exactly what I am looking for, and it comes in different colors also:D There are some beads that look better standing along, and that is what I wanted to silk cord for:D

I'm making a shopping list for MJ Trim. I love their silk hand-dyed ribbon. What I'd really like to find are some nice tassles like Allison (WRC) was using for her bookmarks. She had pinks, greens, lavenders. So pretty and puffy. I hesitate to ask her, but I've been looking and can only find ones that are pretty much cotton or very "upholstery" looking.

Rio Grande (http://www.riogrande.com) has a wonderful selection of silk, ribbon, and rubber cords all with silver rings and lobster claws at really great prices. All three come in a variety of colors. You need to order their Gems & Findings catalog which costs $10.00. I know it may seem a little pricey, but you can take that $10 off your first order. Once you get the catalog and a customer number, you can place your order online on their website.

Yep, was going to say Rio, just ordered a 144 ft. spool of black "rat tail" from them. I used to buy it as I needed it from places like Michaels (look in the jewelry section OR the sewing/knitting section, or Joanne Fabrics. -Jen

I go through lots of this stuff, and here's my source for great colors, sizes.
I buy my silk ribbon called Ruffles at Ribbonsmyth.com, gorgeous hand-dyed, variegated, and strong...fits through my 1/8" holes.
You can buy pure silk cord to dye at dharmatrading.com, but it's expensive, has less body than the rattail, and the threads dye lighter...experience talking here. hth, Love, Helen
