with your last two posts your making me laugh so hard I am in an uncomfortable situation :p ! now stop it!!!

oh, and haven't you read my little poem about the twixt optimist and pessimist, go read it on my signature line. It has always been one of my favorite poems I have every read in my life.
of course I love poetry too.

LOL, I can't believe it myself. Hold up, I gotta pinch myself....OW! lol. Did yall know that I didn't expect to get more than 10 members because of the lack of atc discussions on WC? LOL Not that I was hoping for only 10 this was what I wanted. Thinking there was only gonna be ten was me being a pesimist LMAO.

THis is awsome!

...as he rode, he ran his hand along the castle wall...and wherever his fingers touched, the grey dusty patina of mortar and earth hewn stone vanished, to reveal the warm, luminous tones of topaz, beryl and chalcedony...

Glass and metallic bead detail over metallic / acrylic paint on canvas.

You could be a kiwi (New Zealander).
As for that derriere joke, hmmm I might have to create another, but I'll need a working drawing...

You are wrong, it is just as nice IRL as the gallery image suggested.
Believe it or not, some of us do appreciate more subtle works, probably because I have difficulty doing the same.

Dang Morgie,

Whenever you mention your stack of unloaded ATC's, my fingers twitch involuntarily.
You remind me of a patient friend of mine who could wait to christmas morning before touching her presents...and then unwrap them slowly to preserve the wrapping paper from sellotape tears.
As for me and my siblings, presents displayed were to be gently squeezed between the fingers, sniffed and prodded...and on the big day ripped into with great gusto. No recycled paper from us lot, just stuff for the fire.

Glad you liked the 'beach bum' atc by the way. If Pilan wants one, she is going to have to send me a working drawing...

I was thinking about mini recipe ATC's in the form of a mini ATC book I don't know how its going to come to pass as of yet but HINT HINT, But I thought maybe you, or other folk would make good use of the idea :). I gotta flourless peanut butter cookie recipie that are abominatioins! LOL They should be called Fat A.. Peanut butter cookies, since thats what they give you if you don't care about carbs like me. :)

I asked about a book foum but the MODS said it has to be about art. I was hoping to trade some great paperbacks. Personally I love the recipe idea! Or did you mean a recipe on a ATC? Now that is a good idea!

Hows this for affectionate. :) Im currently giving up watching the Farscape mini series to read every post :p They will repeat it, they allways do on the sci fi channel :D But still thats how much I love yall folks. :D

Morgie

Ohhhhh I wish we had a Sci fi channel in NZ! We are starving for decent sci fis here! Startrek series, Farscape, stargate etc...... :D HUGE Sci fi FAN!!!! lol ok back to reading. I am like you Morgie. I leave the thread for a few hours and have 4 pages to catch up on!

Pilan and Gallery - you are soooooo sweeeet. I totally agree this place is like a second family to me. I feel really close to everyone in ATC project. Sometimes I venture out of the project to others and see you all there too. My heart just leaps when I see your names on other threads. I hardly go to any other site unless it is for reference photos for paintings! I felt that huge hug. Huge hug back.... This place is getting muchy! I hope the guys that hang here don't leave we need some male influence here...... Help

Yes, ironic really. I use that sound all the time, to get my son to crawl backwards out of some dangerous / wet / tight spot so I don't have stoop over and pick him up.
Well, I gingerly opened the mini envelope and admired it's contents...after conversing, I know she is very much in love with him also. It shows on her face.

haaaa....... Funny you should ask. Mounting these little guys is SUCH a challenge. First I dry iron the piece flat once I finished stitching. Then I mount it onto heavy card stock with the most sticky mounting tape (and very messy) I could find. I dry iron it very flat again. Then I mount another piece of heavy card stock to the back and once again dry iron it all very, very flat. WHEW! Dry iron helps to make it all perminant too.

:D I do this collage thing for major therapy... ha ha---it allows me play with glue--like a pre-schooler kid. It also allows me to keep a dozen or so drawers filled with "gotta keep" bits and pieces of trash/images/wrappers, etc.

Sometimes, the collages just come together. I have several I can't part with, because I fell in love with the pattern too much. So, gee, I'll probably end up with a drawer full of cards that I can't trade too. I need a bigger studio. :wink2:

NEW ATC's

Does anyone know if I should find a spray for these water soluble oil pastels that I did???? Not sure if they even make one for the water soluble kind.

Oh well---it was an experiment. I will put them in plastic for safe trading, but I wondered if anyone has ever used the water soluble pastels before? They are very soft and tactile--I loved working with them. :D

omgoodness, all these cool cards.

Kathleen, I received your beautiful little flowers and it is awesome.!!!! I love your style.

Also, I am sending off cards on Thursday. I know it has been at least 8 maybe 10 days maybe a bit longer. I have been trying to stay available so a GE repairman can fix my oven. It has been just awful without my oven. Anyway, just letting you all know they are coming. He is supposed to be coming for sure tomorrow. If he does not come then my husband is going to have to buy a new stove which is expensive. If we can get it fixed that is way cheaper.

Kathleen ,Amanda, Mariana, Gundrun and Vanessa, thank you for being patient with me. :)

Maybe wrap it in acid free tissue paper before putting it in a plastic baggie... Just my 2 cents... It is very lovey and I would hate to see it get damaged!

Warning, warning... I did a bunch of cards. Housework???? naaaaaahhh

Anyway, I did some fantasy watercolors too and hopefully will be adding some more of these acrylic impressionistic works this afternoon.

cheers!

I spray my watercolours and acrylics with a clear spray from the DIY store. (It is a varnish in a can!) It has a slight gloss finish to it and has a more even covering than a brush on type of varnish. :D

Yes, I have some of that spray glosss---good idea!!!---hmmmmmm---maybe I'll try it. It worried me that they were oil based, but it shouldn't do anything too weird.

:) Not only am I a slow card maker, but im going to wait until I have a nice and bigger surplus of them then last time. That way I can trade for longer :)

I asked about a book foum but the MODS said it has to be about art. I was hoping to trade some great paperbacks. Personally I love the recipe idea! Or did you mean a recipe on a ATC? Now that is a good idea!

Avie :D

Yep! :) On an ATC. hehehehehhe, I've been rattleing it around in my brain to figure out a clever ATC way of bringing it about. Cus I figured it be best if it were a useable recipe, One we could read and use, yet still be an ATC card worthy of the card books.

Help

:) I wish we had some more british shows on. I love keeping up apearances, they play it, but not enough, and even though there is still many I havn't seen I always end up seeing a repeat. I think Onslow is my favorate character :p Sci fi shows are just getting good again. I never cared much for star treak, but I used to be forced into going to the conventions with my x about 10 years ago. I did like the hobbit trading card section :) There was books and books of trading cards just laid out for you to open and brows through. I was laid off at the time, and only had fifty bucks to my name. LOL I bought a fifty dollor lord of the rings pewter figuren. LOL Its heavy as heck. That was crazy to do that but I still don't regret it. LOL It was literally, literly the only money I had to my name at the time., even penny HAHAHHAHAH.

I don't think we'll scare the men off LOL. Besides im used to being the only female in a group so I know how they feel. When Ever Al gets a D&D game going im the only one, and when I was a teen I was the only one. And I must admit in all my gaming years, I've never been more treated like an equal then during a good game. They were the best dudes. Im just as crewd and not easily offended so they could be themselves too LOL

I received my surprise ATC from Jakeally  !

Don't forget to ask one, Jakeally can't scan cards at the moment, so the process is that she sends you an owesome ATC in a very nice card, you scan it upon receiving it, only then can she upload in the gallery (so she has 100% traded entries).

I attach the scan, but it's even better IRL.

This is seriously cool. LOVE it. You are right Anne, I got a fantastic IRL wild card from Jakeally also AND an encaustic card...I was tempted to transform it into an ATC also but it is so nicely mounted and written on that I resisted the craving.

Hi All

Just had to say that My husband, daughter and I are going away to see my parents, grandma, sister and Niece this weekend. (reminder: we are a day ahead of you guys in the US)

Leaving on friday night coming back Monday night. Long weekend. NZ holiday of Labour Weekend.

Going to Murchison, a town in the middle of no-where. Blink and you will miss it. Then to Nelson - where the wearable arts show started, a guy split the atom was born there and an 80s pop star was born there too.... Hmmmm oh dear forgot her name..... bother...... My home town anyway :D

Won't have any time to do ATC's but will take photos and maybe convert them to paintings on ATC's later?????

I'm sure we will have fun anyway. Our first trip away with our 4 month old. :D

Must pack......

I can't wait to see this card in person! I think you should make a ATCs featuring trees for every holiday! What a set that would make!

Yep! :) On an ATC. hehehehehhe, I've been rattleing it around in my brain to figure out a clever ATC way of bringing it about. Cus I figured it be best if it were a useable recipe, One we could read and use, yet still be an ATC card worthy of the card books.

Froggy Green, hey???? It is a juicy limey, kiwi type color, no??? :wink2:

Nah. It's the colour I go when I see an ATC that has been traded whilst I slept, and occasionally the colour I go whilst admiring an artist's work that I don't have the aptitude or training for... :)

TSpoon, nice black piece. I especially like the buzzard / vulture ... (please 'xcuse ignorance, I am not familiar with them in New Zealand) it reminds me of the movie musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar' (?70's version), where the pharisees (religious leaders of the day) were depicted as carrion birds of prey..rather like these. SPooky great.

Hmmm. I'm thinking about how to do this also. ? Use one or two card sized ATC bases and attach your tiny reprinted recipe on acid free paper, then varnish and enclose in a funky any medium 'framed' border...?
Wouldn' want to have to use a magnifying glass or sheet though, and a page opening idea would end up with food stuffs smeared all over it (like my usual recipe books...)

I have a much loved fantasically easy to make greek citrus & coconut syrup cake (kek karithas) that my family loves...might have a play around sometime and maybe frame it in a gold / yellow overpainted coconut thread border...te he.

I don't think I have any recipes small enough to fit on an ATC! Not to mention we are going to have to convert units of measurment. I will look into to it though because it would be fun! (We will not be alienating the guys will we?!) :wink2:

Hey recipe folks.....what if we chose a simple "recipe" that we like....it wouldn't have to be a "dish"; it could be some simple food or way of preparing food, short, simple, comforting --- and if possible make it something unique to our part of the world. Like "How my Granny fried okra" or the regional way of preparing fish for you near-the-water types. By keeping it simple like that we could fit it onto an ATC and still have room for art.
Just my two cents.

Black Pearl
Have you closed your eyes and run your fingers over the seed pod yet?
No, I haven't. Instead I have gently run my fingers over it with my eyes wide open. I wouldn't deprive myself of the visual pleasure of those beads for anything. :D

Chefs coming tomorrow. I think I shall be finished with them. They do have to dry. Oil on clear acrylic gesso fabriano. A different feel for sure when I paint on them I must say I don't care too much for the clear gesso. It is gritty like and sucks up the water in acrylic, or turps. If you use clear gesso on anything make sure you be prepared for unusual ways the paint lays on it. I prefer regular white gesso or canvas anyday.

I will not purchase it again. So, if your not in for an adventure in a different experience, then don't buy it because it is not any better and it is not really clear at all. It is streaky. How I am painting the chefs and any other image on these little clear gessoed atc is way different than I would have if I had not used this gesso.

...it was the most spectacular piece of jewellry he had ever seen...the heavy gemstones setting off her exquisite translucent skin to perfection...stones so large he could see his reflection in them like coloured mirrors, so enthralled was he, that he never even noticed her malevolent, amused eyes...

Looking glass series

Glass and bead detail over metallic / acrylic paint on canvas.

The actual piece has much more light and warmth to it than this scanned image. The background is skintone, and you really can see your reflection in the glass stones as described. But it also makes the piece very bulky.

Perhaps we shouldn't limit the # of cards in a series... meaning---we can do any size recipe as long as we trade a series for a series. This way we can have them in our collection lined up alongside each other. AND, we can then decorate to our heart's content.

Maybe try for a three card exchange... featuring one fabulouso recipe! (I know I want that coconut citrus syrupy cake thing Black Pearl)

I think a weaving experiment is a grand idea. I hope you try this. WOW... that would be so lovely to display mini weavings (ATC size) from everyone in a shadow box that could hang on the wall... then I could look at your creations while sitting in the living room.

Hi Anne--

Yes, famous poetry for inspiration sounds like a great project.

I know the weaving would be a lot of work and would take more time. I have made some paper abstract weaving with found papers... that was a lot of fun. Here is an example from last year... thought you may be interested in this... just cut slits in a base photo and weave other collaged papers through...

wow the creative juices are flowing out there! Back to the recipe thing, what about just a recipe swap. Post your recipe in a project thread for atc's for all to enjoy. Create an atc related to that recipe for trading. Your can post as many recipes as you wish, but have an atc up for grabs with each recipe. Put a time limit on recipe posting of one week. That way we won't have recipes floating endlessly through out the thread. what do ya all think?

awesome Pearl. I spoke with my neighbor last night about her getting back to painting. I told her all about the Wetcanvas Artist Trading Card Club and she loved the idea. So, with the help of me inticing her by telling her she can use my paints anytime, hopefully I can get her started back. She is a jewel of a neighbor too.

I am going to the post office in about 2 hours to mail all cards off for the ones I have addresses for. If I traded in the past with you, I still have your address. If I have not then, you need to send me your address.

Also, a 4 star restaurant is opening up here and they want me to submit a couple of chefs paintings to them for possible hanging in the restaurant.
Then on Thursday the gallery/studio I have been going to for the last 4 years, wants me to teach a class on Thursday. So, if I get busy and don't post for a while after this last batch, you'll know why. Its exciting and lots of work ahead.

I have lots of work to do today so ya'll carry on.

Hi all

In regard to the recepies (oh golly can't spell and have a head cold before I go away - which is tonight) Sniff sniff.

Make the recepie cards like the "ATC trading card guide" by me or the "la belle femme" by Uncertainid. Cards that twist behind the other but are attached. One half for the recepie and the other half for picture......

Ohhhh see the attachment below - adapted in photoshop for example:
This is not an available card.

The gold ring on the cards is one of those thingys that you can buy from sewing shops. Usually a pack of 10 or so. (Well in NZ anyway) they are called ring rivets here.

Wanted to let you know that I've posted some new cards. Also, my hubby just joined wetcanvas! So you can be looking for "AWaterBrother" in the threads

Avie, this is lovely. I like how you pick out the background pattern and incorporate it into your threaded design. Really good eye (and so accurate :envy: ). Well done.

PS. I perused your gallery and website out of curiousity last night. You have done some very detailed embroideries. Especially liked the red work owls.
Plus the images of children including yours...we have a great indoor wave pool here which I am taking my son to for the first time this weekend.
Hope he takes to it like Nathaniel ey.

Thank you Vanessa, my website is a very small sample of my work. I started doing needlepoint after I joined the military to pass time on long watches. Twelve years later I have done many, many pieces! Most go to family and friends as gifts. Santa on a Snow Owl went to a charity auction to benifit a program working with violence in schools which you might have heard is a issue here in the USA.

I hope your kids have a great time in the wave pool! We go every summer and love it! It is getting so cold here that is hard to imagine going swimming.

Pilan -- Is that painting IN THE NUDE or painting NUDES? :D
I've been checking your atc gallery every day sometimes twice.
Please post the pictures of your paintings for the resturant.

I too like all the ideas about atc possiblities. My juices are starting to perk, and I can't wait to get to the studio every day to just play in the paints and pencil dust.

ErthAnngel, this is so SERIOUSLY cool,
as I said in my PM to you..I have never seen a live owl, we don't celebrate halloween, I have never tasted a tootsie pop, but I LIKE this.
I like the colour contrast, the detail and the attitude (of your comments and his eyes).

(Pokes head through stacks and stacks of paperwork)

Who's having a nude class? Sounds very interesting. I'll have to go back a few pages and catch up on the news.

Very very nice cards so far, every one. Can't remember who did what exactly because I have an obscene lack of memory :D but what sticks out in my mind best are the cattails, this super cute owl in front of the moon and this collage with fire in it. Sorry, but I really can't remember who did them now and I'm too lazy to click the back button. Heh heh!

Aha! So it's Pilan who's holding a nude class! And you're painting chefs for a restaurant gallery as well?!!! And you put them before your WC desperadoes??? :  Heh heh, congratulations Pilan!

LOL, I live in a rather strict Muslim country, so there are no nudes involved in art classes. So that's one branch of art I won't get to dabble in while I'm here. If anyone appears even in a bikini before public eyes (besides the pool), we'd probably be chopped, stir-fried and condemned for life. Hey, that actually sounds like a new recipe for the ATCs.

Glad it got there safely Gudrun. I will say Hello to Melanie - She's from Munich (Munch to you if I could do the umlaut?). She is extraordinarily lovely, and very sweet with my daughter. I have already shown her the first ATC from you. She thinks it's really cool that we all exchange here. (But, hey, I think it's cool too. Suppose there's a first time for everything ?!)

I can't believe how much has been written in a couple of days! I also can't believe that there are so many ATCs. So to those with new ones...I'M SORRY....I JUST CAN'T KEEP UP.... :crying:

Must admit....work has been heinously busy. I do most of my ATC's either at midnight or 5 am, which gives you an idea of my sleeping pattern.. But if I don't do them then, I just can't do them.

But really...to those I have received cards from recently.

GODZONED...The table lamp is tucked up nice and cosy next to the cat, and I put the lady bird into the album with the card it came in! I trust you are well.

BEEP! .... I have been running my fingers over the embroidery of bud. So carefully wrapped - it has all been incorporated into my special ATC album. BTW - I've been reading your posts re: green. Green is my favourite colour, and I am drawn to it too. I just don't know how to use it properly! When I seen something gallery318's flowers, I salivate. But can I replicate it? No...Spose I'll have to do some practice!

GALLERY318 - Those flowers....so beautiful...And the palms...they are so different from one another. My husband couldn't believe they were by the same person.

KATHRYN 8 - you've been so quiet! Thanks for the Dogroses and Sunflower(s). The photo is a wonderful composition - it is much better than you seemed to think it was, but I thank you for the drawing and the photo of the swamp....I am rather keen to draw that swamp it looks so green and sensual.

AS FOR THE IDEAS FOR CARDS.....
Recipes - wish I could cook. If I can count pikelets, I'll do one! (got fat around the time of my labour 7 1/2 years ago, making a 1/2 batch everyday for myself!).

Poems (from Anney) ... great idea. There is a love poem that my uni supervisor read at his wedding that I'd love to draw...only problem is that it's in French, and my French is pretty ordinary!

AND EVERYONE....I love reading about you all. I love looking at your paintings; I love reading your posts.

(PILAN - go girl! - get those paintings into that restaurant. )

I just wanted to make sure that you all know how much I appreciate individual responses to my ATC's... and I like to respond to as many as I can catch up with in a day.

BUT please, please don't feel like you have to respond to each post I send in, or feel bad about not keeping up with everything on the forum. No apologies necessary... I can understand completely. Life keeps moving along as we all try to fit in ATC time---splattering, gluing and drawing when we can find a few minutes to spare.

I enjoy sharing with everyone here, so I wouldn't want anyone to feel bad about not commenting on every entry. WOW... we would all go looney if we tried to keep up like that.

:D :D This is such a great group---I guess that is why I post so much! Yes, I'm camped out here for a very long time... as long as you'll put up with me. :cat:

Hi everyone,
WOW! I am astounded at all of the beautiful cards. I haven't had much time to look until today (or post anything new for that matter), and I see, I have really missed out. I wish I had been able to trade for some of the great stuff you guys have done. I also see new members that weren't here last time I was on, so, Hi you guys! I hope to be more involved and get some new trades! By the way, to those who have already traded with me, I have yet to be dissapointed in anything, these postings really do little justice to the actual works, they are fantastic! Hope everyone is well, keep 'em coming!
By the way, I may not always be able to get the card I want, but I have been saving them to my computer desktop background and can display them for myself and my coworkers to see all day long! They make a wonderful slide show for a computer!

Ha ha :D ! I heard just this very thing the other night on the tv. A famous chef, I forgot who they said he was, was supposed to attend something or do a show but the night before he cooked in the nude and opened the oven. He burnt something on his body. true story.

P

LOL, I wonder why he cooked nude. I'm betting he didn't attend the show the next day.

Sorry Gudrun for all the small talk. I think the best way to stick to basic trading would be to use the Final Entry screen, watch the easy to read list as it gets updated and see who posts new ATC's--- then private message all requests and make trades without having to go through all the posts on the thread. Would that work for you Gudrun? This way you wouldn't have to read any of the posts if that doesn't work out in your schedule.

I know it is hard to read everything. :D

I hope I have helped some.

Hey, what about a subthread on what the important messages for all the active members are. I can understand Gudrun's point completely. At the same time people like Kathleen, myself and a bunch of other chit chatters and of course Miss Pearl, are very essential here too. So, with this maybe we can have a subthread and those who just need the bare information can click on it and get it. This could reduce time in clicking through the messages and help the trading to be more enjoyable for Gudrun and others.

A subthread maybe very helpful too all.
thanks

This post is only to suggest ways to help make the thread more enjoyable and productive too all and not too offend anyone. :)

As she reads her she gives a sigh, chair has been captured, but a smile and cleansing breath returns at the promise of a monochromatic just for her. Oh, the morning is off to a great start. She moves to the last page and then back a couple to catch up (after the night, as Gudrun put it, of giggles and tons of new atc's)(they all must be night workers) to find a post by black pearl, the most  of all atcers. Chop Chop is HERS  :envy:  :( :envy: How can this be? Didn't she read my most desperate postings? My deep desire for all things cooking related? All I wanted to do was to just logoff. As I sat staring at the monitor, my spirit just seemed to melt and slip away. My thoughts turned to questions of why. I'm not a greedy person, why me? Soon the resentment of this night lurker began taking over the lovely, gentle, and genorus person that I am. Silently I vowed to get the lurker of the night. The Black Pearl. (to be continued)

The Island Dreams series is beautiful Black Pearl, but I have to say that this tops the rest. I just love the colour red.
