Black Pearl--

I would love to do a trade. Is the Matisse-Fauvism (above) taken yet?

The purple clematis drawing is still available. :D

I find it helpful when people post to say they have added to their gallery so I am letting you all know that I added 4 new cards to mine. Three are from peices I did about a year ago and one (the Bulldawg) I did this morning for this project. PM me about any trades.

Hope you like them...

Avie---that makes good sense (and I do like your new cards!!)... it does help when we know something is new on the board. I am getting slow in my old age--reminders are a blessing.

Needless to say... I've been gooooooooofing off ALL day. (don't even ask if I've made the bed yet-- )

So, I admit putting up a bunch of new ATC's---and you are probably thinking I have quite lost my mind--possibly even wishing I would just go to bed already and be quiet. :D

Now, off to grill some steaks for dinner... isn't that the husband's job?

Just a not to let you'all know that I've posted up a new card (I'm so much slower than everyone else :P) and I got a MUCH better picture of the card I posted yesterday. :p Please PM me if you are interested in a trade!

Love the block prints you have done in the past. I am always wanting to try new things and this may spur me to do some myself. If it doesn't disappear in the great void that sits on top of my neck :D
I have wood carving tools (both my parents are carves and so they tried to teach me) and I have some litho carving tools, so I guess I'm set, right? :p

Thanks Debee--

Hope you are mending well, and glad to hear that you are able to be in your gallery again. Your graphite pieces are great---you inspire me to use the pencil and ditch this mad obsession I have with colors. :D There is something so peaceful about a graphite drawing.

Have fun carving! (be careful--those little stinkers are sharp... ) Let us know if you come up with a new stamp block. It can get a bit addictive... not an uncarved white eraser in my house.

Hi ya Kathleen!
Yes I stipple most of the time. It takes a couple of weeks to get over the painful eye twitching after the projects get done. Thank you for the title :D I will wear it with pride.

Ohhh the Smiling Sheep is my very fav., I have had family members try to aquire that one (unsucessfully I might add).

I love the eraser cut work you did. Did you color the paper before the stamp? I am def. going to look into that! I was doing (trying to do) was lino cuts. Not fun for me!

Yes, if I remember correctly, I laid down a rainbow of chalk or oil pastel colors--then inked over it with my primitive, carved type stamps.

At one time, I wanted to have some of my more detailed ink drawings etched into rubber. I know there are companies that do that. Not sure how much it costs though. The lino blocks almost made me totally nutso--and I almost ended up with one less finger too. Unsafe for me--the carving tool kept slipping.

I've got your envie ready. I'll mail out your ATC tomorrow. Thanks for the trade.

Just a looksie at my latest submissions for your kind perusal...
(Apologies, I do not know how to link them all together or attach a thumbnail for zoom in)

The first ATC in a whimsical little series entitled 'Island Kitsch'.

This embroidery and mixed media series alludes to the Cook Islands, a self-governing nation comprised of 15 islands located in the South Pacific.

With an estimated population of 17,ooo and 78,ooo tourists, the tourist industry would have a huge impact upon the perception and presentation of the 'native' polynesian culture.

I love embroidery... have several books that instruct on the most creative techniques---just like what you are doing... sort of "embroidery painting". I just never could tackle a large work. The smaller ATC format seems more manageable. You are so clever.

Splendid.

And thank you for the great travel trivia. Wishing I could travel more-- ahhh, someday.

Thanks for the info Sara. Now are those oil pastels, or oil bars? Oooooh, If it were either or it would be great though.

LOL on finding time. I thought I was being neglectful of late. Oh, yall heard all of my computer woe's so I won't whine about it again. But hopfully soon the one I can hook the scanner up to will be in working order soon. I've been on an art break, and acumulating some cards for the next trade round. LOL, hopfully there won't be any crappers in this card creation bunch :p

But seriously, I work at night so im home all day. Not that i have all of the hours to myself tho, sleep/cleaning/art/computer/Spending time with my love all that and what not. :D But I've just discovered after all these years how to use WC without having to root out each post I made each time. My wc button gives me all recently replied to threads, and provides a keen short cut. I probably would have never had known the thread was moved if chris hadn't told me :p The new post button lets me see any new post on the whole web site, and I use my own darn signature to get to the main project page so I don't have to root that out. :D Also I got all of my fav fourms in subscribed to so I can see the latest post of each one on the My wc page, and if somthing seems interesting I can just zip to it. :) Even still, its hard to keep up :p

Morgie

Morgie, how do you find the time to comment on everyones cards like you do? Only reason I'm on now is I'm home "sick" from the office. I'm still doing work stuff on the puter, just doing it at home. Did you know that they DO make metallic oil pastels? I saw them at Jerry's the other day. They would probably work fine in conjunction with oil paint because I think you can use paint thinner with them like you can use water with watercolor colored pencils. Even if you chose to use them plain they should be compatible with your oils.
I know what you mean about the wonderful new cards that everyone is posting. It seems like we have a second generation of participants and WOW do they have beautiful stuff. I want, I want, I want, but I don't have anything to trade except one or two sad birds and a number :D Guess I'd better get downstairs tonight and whip up a batch. (Yeah, right. One of those fold out women takes me hours to do.) Anyway:   to all of you who have posted cards and just know that this old slow-poke is champing at the bit to trade for some of them.

I just signed up for the ATC project and posted three new cards. I hope I navigated throught the project forum correctly--I am still learning my way around the boards.

I tried to add a link to my personal ATC gallery page, but not sure if I got the link to show up in my signature. :D

Looking forward to trading with you.

Sadly there is no real way of knowing what new is on the board. But a good way of finding out is to check the gallery where it lists all the people who've uploaded a finished entree. There you may notice the numbers have changed. Another way for folks that have a high speed connection is to look at all the cards togeather in the big gallery. You will notice one that catches your eye, and get to admire past cards at a glance. Also just because its an older card, it dosn't mean its been traded. Some folks put traded in the description as oposed to the title watch for that too.

There you can comment on a card. The comments are re-directed here. :) Hope I've helped

Morgie

Debbie--

Yes, good advice on keeping track of the last message read. I already saw that as a potential confusion factor for me! I don't want to miss a thing! :wink2:

Also, is there a special button--or link--to view just the recently uploaded ATC's??? Or do we need to check each private gallery and search them out one by one?

Thanks for everyone's welcome. It looks like a fun group. I'm off to my daughter's violin lesson--surely I can do some ATC's while waiting. :D

cheers

Im sure this has already been answered, but Im gonna give a crack at it just in case. (I read my back posts in order from my last post thats how I keep track)

Any how go to the main project system page. push under the tools caption my projects. There it will list all of the projects you sighned up for and you will be able to edit current uploaded stuff :) Anney gave a step by step on page 30 and 31 with pictures if your still confused.

Morgie

Okay, I am a total newbie---see, I can't figure out how to go back in and edit one of my cards as "TRADED". I'm sure there is a way, but someone with knowledge must rescue me. :D

I'm sure it gets frustrating to request a card when it is already soaring across continents to another ATC addict. ha ha So, be patient as I learn the little nuances here---my learning curve is steep. :D

HELP

:) Its my opinon ( I can't spell darn it) That you bust out zounds of great cards LOL, your one of them dude!

Okay, serious problem here! Why oh why are so many people doing such good cards?
Are you wanting me to tear my hair out? I try to trade with everyone at least once...if I don't run out of cards to trade with, then some people put such good cards on that I want to trade with them again and again! But I don't want to because I want to give them a chance of trading with different people.
So to save my sanity and hair, stop putting such good cards on!

These new ones are great, How did you get the photograph onto the fabric?

I like these a lot!

Thanks for the feedback. I just glued it on with a bit of stodgy acrylic gel medium...which I used to use to make my acrylic paintings mimic the impasto texture of oils...without the drag of long drying times.

It is archival quality also apparently, and will hopefully continue to adhere.
Just in case, I try to oversew a section or two...I also intend to lightly varnish the surfaces to protect them, before posting. They have been surprisingly popular, and I haven't had time to finish and store them yet.

Really looking forward to seeing your embroidery ATC's.
I love running my fingers over stuff like that.
Can I be cheeky and 'bags' one ??!

I guess I'm ATC-addicted

Glad you like them Gudrun. I always wonder if the expection will match the reality..as you can tell, I am well and truly addicted also.
Each day I tell my husband I am going to pause ATC production...he just looks at me and goes off to work. In the evening he sees me leaping into the study clutching my latest hoard, once kids are abed and chores done, to scan in and upload more. Thankfully he just stays silent, even if he rolls his eyes.

Gosh I am learning about all kinds of new mediums I want to try out. (If I could only squeeze a few more hours into my days!!!) I started some embroidery ATC this very morning so maybe by the weekend I will have one or two to post. I am challenged in the painting dept. but my 9 year old son is supprisingly good at it. He wants to do a card to trade too. We'll see...

Arh. Therein lies my secret...I am cat napping now. Unable to sleep a full 4hours plus. From memory, I think this will be ongoing after delivery also  , so maybe I'll hit the golden 100 ey.

But I am getting a little quicker at production...maybe my calluses are toughening up. I just snatch a few minutes here and there during the day between work etc, when my feet are up for antipuffing treatment.

Hello all! I posted 4 new cards today! I'm so proud ... of course I did play hookie from work ...but that's beside the point. LOL!

I have a question for y'all. I'm considering crafting some ATC size quilts using two layers of fabric and a light batting (filler) in the center.
They would be atc size and not terribly thick (they'd still fit in most photo album pockets) but they wouldn't be stiff, since they would only have fabric in them and no cardboard or other material. Would this be okay? What do you think? Should I attempt it?

Thanks to everyone who comments on my work! PM me if your interested in a trade!

There are two real old bathtubs like this waiting outside, that I am going to plant with herbs.

[/COLOR]

Thanks to everyone who comments on my work! PM me if your interested in a trade!

Lisa Marie :cat:

Are you a quilter, too!?? I have been making quilts for over twenty years. I just recently stopped making them and started painting again. I first heard about ATCs through my quilt guild. Quilter's have been trading cards (little quilts) for years. I think there is just as much talent and work that goes into an ATC made from fabric as anything else. I say "Go for it!"

Another embroidered, mixed media over acrylic paint on canvas ATC. This one has actual coconut shell and dried seed beads incorporated.

With more 'cook islanders' living in New Zealand, than on the islands, many would feel and look like a tourist if they were to do a trip 'home'...
Hence the awkward pose is deliberate.

Hi everyone,

Pilan raised a good point recently, regarding remembering IOU's and agreed or pending trades.

Godzoned gave me her tip which I find invaluable...

I have kept a record in a little old diary, of all the ATC's I have created to date, labelled with their title and actual number (eg. 54th of the 70 I've made)

When a trade is agreed to, I just write the trader and their agreed trade (eg. Pilan-Guardian of the Pearl) beside it.

When it eventually arrives in the post, I just tick it off.

Everytime I visit this site I have a pen and the diary handy...as I also keep a record of people's trade names and actual postal details in alphabetical order.

Hope that helps a little.

:D I get a bit like this...But I do much the same as BlackP - have it all listed - a couple of columns, who I have to send to, who to receive from etc......Not that My system always works - it's kind of user-dependent!

Hi everyone. Interesting to see that the subject of keeping track of trades has come up. I thought I was the only one....

Here is my system: I pull up microsoft word at the same time I am online. I highlight and copy across anyones name and addy that I am trading with. Once that is in my document I simply go in and add what card I am to send them. (Havent thought of writing what I am getting from them...good idea!)
If they havent sent me their addy yet I simply put in their name and the card they want, then pm them for the rest.

I do this instead of writing it down for a couple of reasons. First and foremost is the decreased chance that I will transpose numbers or letters in their address...something I am very prone to do, especially when going from on-screen to off-screen. Secondly it is quick and handy and my computer time is limited because of my day job. I can zip the info across, save and be outta there in no time. ( I wont mention the third reason being that I would be sure to mislay a hard copy in this topsy-turvy house :D )
Just my two cents.

SNAP!!! But mine is a big red book kept by the computer. I have it divide into columns with the person's name and address, their computer name (i.e Black pearl),what I am trading for what, if I have sent mine out, if it has been recieved, if I have recieved theirs and finally if I have let them know I have recieved theirs safely.

Thank you, I will have to keep the bathtub in mind! The hardest part of the embroidery for me is choosing stitches that go together visually. 70 percent of the time I start something a don't like how the stitches look and tear it out to start all over. Sigh... I plan on climbing into my attic tonight and seeing about some different fabrics. Football is on tom. so I will get a lot of stitching done.

And this - there is so much warmth in your pictures, Pilan :D

I remember reading your post about the length of time it takes to paint these little wonders.

I find that with my watercolours - though one of my personal favourites of mine (sunrise) took only about 10 minutes - and it was the sponteneity that made it work well.

Of course the lino cuts take a while - as much in design as carving! - and at the moment I'm struggling with my coloured inks!!!!

Joel - another beauty! I know you think the colours aren't right, but to me, they are subtle and work well - the coolness of the background to the warmth of the child's skin.

I don't know if I have said this before (if I have, just humour me) I love the diversity of items you use in your work.

Amanda

Thanks Amanda.
I never really think about it, it just sort of seems right for whatever particular piece I am working on somehow.
An idea for a series or card comes to mind - usually in the middle of the night...which I furiously write down, with scribbled drawings and arrows all over the page.
Immediately my mind is thinking how to give it texture, as I can never seem to think one dimensional..so I just use whatever I have in the house.
I have been raiding my jewellry parts lately.

Pilan

It is getting faster but still takes time. I enjoy making these cards and have more chefs to paint. I just seem to take a trip on the ones especially the table lamp, the blue teapot and some of the others.

In my opinion and experience there are 3 parts to painting. Design which is the intellect, passion which is the middle part and the dots and dashes which is the little finishing touches.

So, think of it as an Oreo cookie :D . Design/intellect which requires a bit of practice and time in the saddle about composition/layout. Passion is where you allow the real individual touch as an artist to come forward, i.e. color and brushstrokes. Dots and dashes is putting contrast and touches on completing the painting.

The hardest part was the blending of all three. But, over time i.e. time in the saddle ie. painting like 100 plus paintings day in and day out develops the 3 elements I have listed.

The spontaneous paintings too me are gems as well. But, they are like visions or messages. It is a magic time when every stroke is as close to perfect compared to any other time I paint. I have a few of things and these are very personal and I have kept them. :p

Anyhow, here I go going off again. Have a great day.

I am glad you like them. Thank you for commenting.

Ha!!! I played around with lino cuts Fri night and Saturday.....played and played. Didn't work well though. I wanted to colour them, and tried applying colour first and then the print....just DIDN'T work. Anyway....I finally did a couple of prints last night and waited till this morning to colour them. Sort of worked, worked better than yesterday (paper pulling off with the print, the print ink not applying etc...). I would like your comments.
The only one that is different is Rose2 where I used coloured ink for the print. It all bled together - which had an effect but was too blurry. So I outlined it in black pen. I thin it looks better....

Great!!! The Oreo cookie analogy!

I like your way of analysing this. It's hard to get all the elements right...It's really hard to start with an image burning in your brain and then to get it down on paper the way you want it to be. Sometimes the mistakes work better than the vision!

As for the spontaneous paintings that work...I'm just so surprised when they turn out! I haven't really thought of them as special! But you're right. They seem to be a time when everything just gels and flows.

Take care! and Happy Painting!

Wow, twenty years of quilting expertise, I'm sure I will be asking you about techniques! I have been quilting off and on for about 3 years now. I enjoy hand applique most. But I'm just begginning to learn it. My husband occasionally designs beautifull (but extremely complex) geometric quit patterns. I hope to someday learn machine applique as I have seen some beautifully intricate things done that way. I'm going to attempt some quilt ATCs we'll see how they turn out. I had no idea that "quilt cards" were around... I'm going to go look those up on the internet right now...

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

Hi Pilan

Yes, we did have fun in St. Augustine... lovely Bed and Breakfast on the bay. My sister watched our 12 year old, so hubby and I were alone... gee, the last "alone" date may have been over six years ago. :D

I did some sketching while waiting for breakfast on the porch, so I did get some art done. :wink2:

I am totally exhausted, but it's on to Universal Studios for tomorrow's adventure... then the 12 year old goes back to school on Monday, and Mom can rest. ahhhhh. The "Lord of the Dance" performane was outstanding--feeling like I want to Irish jig all over the place. Scary thought, I know. :music:

Sounds like you are having a great time. What a wonderful opportunity to see the Lord of the Dance. My granddaughter started tap about 3 weeks ago and she loves to make noise with those shoes. It sort of reminds me of the lord of the dance. I have seen these people perform on tv and they are amazing indeed. So you wanted to dance a jig after seeing them :D . It reminds me of seeing a racing movie at the outdoor theater. When it was over and as the cars were exiting the drive-in you can see and hear cars peeling out and throwing dirt. Mostly young young people feeling their oats. :D

How nice to just have a date. It is wonderful. I have my 29 anniversary on the 26th but we went and celebrated it earlier in Reno. I had a great time and even got paintings in. ;)

I hope you enjoy the card. It will be sent off Monday or Tuesday I think.

Oh boy, there are so many nice cards and I get really guilty when I don't give each one doesn't get the praise it deserves. Sorry guys, but I only have twenty four hours each day. Hopefully I'll have more time tonight to look in again. And I hope no one uploads another two hundred cards.

Mayg. you had me cracked up laughing with your descriptions tonight...just when I thought I must be the only one with unorthodox untechniques, you come along and mention your knuckle painting !
Then you start out with a great serious sounding commentary about the upcoming month of Ramadan, and mention the "banana leaf thing" that he is fanning himself with.
I just lost it again.
I love your sense of humour, that seemingly unwittingly makes you create witty little pieces and the colours are fresh and lovley.
Well done once again!

Kathleen, I couldn't agree with you more....and I am seriously hoping that none of these quilters unpick the back of any of my little mixed medias...with their dash of thread...they will laugh themselves silly if they do!

Thanks for the +ve feedback on these little kitsch series also.
I am having - and giving y'all (Morgie is infectious like ATC's) a break from Cookie Culture, and going into fantasy land for a bit...

Just did the first of a nonsensical little fairytale series, called "the magic mirror"...I think I am getting all girly minded through renovating an old plain dolls house.

I love the connection to poetic words---very cool! The addition of the foil adds interest! :)

I was involved with a Haiku ATC trade, and everyone came up with such beautiful cards. I think I'm going to try to do a couple of those original haiku things again. I love writing.

I truly believe that the art world totally belongs to the children. I mean, aren't children wonderfully bold, uninhibited and free when they execute their art???

I have a gallery link someplace where only children's art is posted. I go there to be inspired. Sometimes as adults, we can get so self-concious... we need to make sure we keep "playing" with no fear of failure. I know at least for me, I have to remind myself of this gift of youth!

Please tell your daughter that this is darling!!!

I had to chuckle when I read how many of you log your ATC trades in notebooks, journals etc. ME TOO! :D

I am somewhat obsessive when it comes to logging info---I use lots of three ring binders with sheet protectors, homemade spreadsheets, etc... I have all my trades handwritten with dates, titles, etc.

It makes me smile when I see my list of international friends growing. It's just an awesome experience to connect with someone miles away.

Thanks you guys. I have not tried collage before, until this ATC project, so it is fresh as.
My home is a high ceilinged 1900 style house, that I have painted the walls of, and done curtains for most rooms now. But I don't even have any canvases up on the wall yet. Just strong stripey mexican look table cloths and white fur rugs on the sofas. I like comfort with a strong background colour. It has been a surprise to ME how cutsey I have become with these ATC's.

Love the photo.
Don't stand on too many chairs for us!

Some of those cards don't look too bad. Have another look at them in about a month and if you still don't like them then throw them. :D

Here are all my failed efforts. ...

BTW Debbie, your baby is absolutely adorable what is his name. I am guessing it is a little boy? :)

lol
No not a boy but a girl.
She is now 4 months old.

Her name is Mishael (pronounced: Mish-ay-el) It is Hebrew meaning: who is and what God is. Mentioned in the bible several times. Most well known place would be in the story of the three dudes in the firey furnice. (Back to sunday school everyone!) It is a boys name but sounds so feminine I thought I could get away with it. Look it up in the bible: Daniel 1:7

She was 6 pounds 11 ounces when born, natually.
She still has strawberry red hair and blue eyes. :D

Thanks Kath and BP...Tab has been bugging me to let her post something. She is a darling herself (not that I'm biassed or anything). I love drawing and painting with her, because she is so unself-conscious about it. I watched her with my pastels once and she drew this amazing thing in bright pink, white and black against on some of my grey paper (which I gave in and let her use a sheet of). I thought it was wonderful. Unfortunately it was an unfinished work and her next step was to run her hands alll over it and smudge it up!!
I then went off and did a pastel of lilies in white and pink on grey paper! Learnt as much from her as a could have from a book that day.

Pilan - If your 10 year old wants to do a couple, I'm sure Tab would be ecstatic!

Wonderful, unique technique. I miss those leaves---sniffle, sniffle---I'm very homesick for New York this time of year.

I am currently stuck in the land of palm trees. It also appears that every bug that God ever created lives in Florida. Just thought I would hedge around for some mild sympathy. Ohhhh yeah, we get hurricanes here too... like three of them this year, sniffle sniffle---
