View Full Version : horse's head

This is one I did a few weeks ago and is my first attempt at a horse. It is done on 160gsm sand coloured ingres paper, size 9x13 using pastel pencils. Unfortunately I no longer have the reference picture. Any c&c's more than welcomed.

Thanks for looking.

beautifully done. Love the mane  blowing in the wind, love the whole face, the foreshortening, all of it.

Ohh what a beauty........ lovely looking horse, love the subtleties of colour.... and compliments of background - you have rendered it beautifully.... well done indeed

Irrelevant really, but I feel the neck may be a tad too thick .... If this were mine I might crop off some off some of the neck, from under he's chin leaving same amount of space as from the top of he's ears to page............ am sure a horsey person will snap this up, if not already........ really lovely piece

Lovely, lovely work! Very expressive eyes, the mane gives the portrait movement, and the color looks right on. Only nitpik, and it may be that your photo did not pick it up, is that the left eye (viewer side) does not have the same white eyelashes as the right side.

Thank you everyone.............
Dark Shades think you might be right about the neck but will leave it for now as I have someone that may want to buy it :D
Kat yes it is the photo for some reason didnít pick up the eye lashes :(

Thanks again all its always encouraging to get feed back of any type especially when others can pick up on those things that you miss :D

wow, this is so cool. i AM a horsie person, and think he looks just right....do you know his breed? but i gotta say, i do wish to see those white-ish eyelashes on (our) left eye. but his nostrils are wonderfully done, and of course that mane, oooh!! the modeling in the face, with the hair going the diff. directions, very well done!

and gotta love the new smilies!

Lori - this is magnificent. I love the soft application of your pastels - it's so smooth and textural and soft and it just draws me in for a closer look.

Well done!!! congratulations on the sale too.
