Hey Kate,
This is a great example of when to break "the rules" . . with such a confronting image it is quite acceptable . .in fact it's down right better . . . to place the focal point right smack bang in the centre as you've done. Well rendered too! . .good stuff!
Cheers
Crumby :)

You really captured the sense of the tiger moving forward. I just love pieces like this where you sense the beauty of the animal's movement. Total success!!!!!

Thanks everyone. If I were to show this, I would call it "Here, kitty, kitty, kitty" But I did it for my son-in-law, for his birthday. He is crazy about big cats. Never have to worry about what to get him on gift giving occassions!
But Crumbly mentioned something that raised a question in my mind. I will have to think on it some, then will raise it in Pastel Talk for everyone to read.

Beautiful Kate, he looks as if he's walking out of the picture and I should be running. Love how you've painted the fur.

Kate - what I think impresses me the most is the use of lights and darks playing off each other and the use of warms/cools - compliments to really give the Tiger so much power in that cool snow.

Lovely work - it's got a lot of strength and the composition works really well - it just has to be a spare background to show off the dense stripes in the body.

no doubt it will be a true hit!

I realize that the eyes are about dead center in the frame. But it really seems to work in this picture, when I look, I can't take my eyes off its face. If I did, I'm sure it would leap on me, no, I'm not taking that chance!

Sorry for being so late, Kate...been trying to make the rounds today and kept gettin side tracked either by something going on here at home or I got stalled studying the paintings that have been posted recently (the tiger was one of those stalls :) ....) There has been so many terrific pieces displayed in this forum recently......I would find myself scrolling back several times and re examining them trying to glean what I could from others' experience .....Seems that the "slump" so many of us were experiencing is over....Once again there's pastel dust in the air!!!
