Here's one of my mom's "babies". She's holding him against her chest, wearing a white tshirt. My lastest attempt at something "realistic", a change from the illustrative stuff I've been doing recently. I'm getting frustrated by the texture in my paper, even the areas that are burnished show through. Time to trash this old sketchbook.

This is Excellent! I especially like how you`ve done the feathering the face and the hands. I also like the colours you have used. Please do more birds.

Very nice Kiwi - Nice bright colors, great feathers & textures on his feet and Moms hands. The texture of your old sketchbook is not a problem on this one!

It looks like he could reach right out and peck your fingers. Wonderful colors. I love that he is the attraction!!!! Beautiful work.
Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, everyone.
Please give credit for the composition to my dad, who took the picture. I don't usually like working from photos but I really liked the way this picture looked. My parents really love their birds and I thought this picture portrayed that. This was actually drawn off of a computer screen (digital photo) and I had trouble with the bird, just about went blind trying to see the details. I think I like the hands better - I've never tried serious flesh tones before, and after I got the basic shapes in I finished it without looking at the picture.

Agree, trash this one--right to my house!! Excellent. You've definitely captured the "baby bird" look and your colors are excellent. Just to be nitpicky, I'd say the hands look illustrated--but terrific and they don't detract from the parrot.
BTW, do you use the "zoom in" feature on your program? I use it to see details in a photo. Lose pixels but can still see the small areas.
