This is a portrait I have been working on...going to try to finish it in the next couple of days. Thought I would share it at this point for any feedback.
It's about 9.5 x 10.5 on hot press wcolor paper, underpainted with acrylic and prismacolors in a circular stroke on top. This is the first time I have tried to achieve any semblance of skin tones with this approach.
The reference is mine, and is my granddaughter, Taylor (who is now 10), at the age of 3.
Comments and feedback welcome.....
Having trouble getting the photograph the right brightness....this is straight out of the camera, no adjustments. Otherwise, it looks too bright

Once again, my images look like they have had Vaseline smeared over the top of them. I don't have time right now to work out the problem but I will try my next update to get a better image. It's great on my monitor in Photoshop, but I'm doing something that by the time it gets uploaded, it looks blurry. Sorry guys.

looks great,   I've always admired your style :)
Have you tried saveing it in another format or with higher resolution?

This is just great. I love how you have simplified the background and have achieved that bright sunny day look. On my monitor her blouse is more orange-y in your painting than in the ref picture. Is that because you will be putting on more layers? This is just lovely and I'm fascinated with the technique you use.

Thanks Dave, thanks BK! Yes, the underpainting for her blouse is orange, it will have more layers when I'm finished. Here is an update...not quite finished, have to work on her right hand, hair and a general finishing.
This is a scan so I missed a little off the bottom. This is truer in brightness and color than the first post. And I tried something that Arlene told me to try at the convention....the pic looks more clear.

I have to come out of my lurking mode and say that this is so beautiful. I absolutely admire your style so much. I tried doing the circle strokes on a rose picture but I failed miserably. This is just so gorgeous. Can hardly wait to see it all done. :D

beautiful so far although i'd like to see you do a wash using the lighter color in the background on the blue background...it's too dark and i'm not thrilled with the sharp line dividing it.

Here is what I think may be 99.9% finished. Taking it to my monthly critique tomorrow morning. You never know about that group ;)

I really like it.  I was trying to hold off commenting until you were finished, because I didn't have anything constructive to say.
Your work always has such great feeling and I always learn from it. :)

Like Nicole, I had no helpful advice. It's really good, and very cohesive. You've worked the entire piece and it shows. Kudos!

Thanks Nicole, thanks BKWYRM (btw...what does that stand for?), thank you Meisie! Thanks Gemma :D I really appreciate your feedback.
I took it to the monthly critique this morning and with a few tweaks passed inspection :) It's really much more subtle in person. I can't wait for my son and granddaughter to see it tomorrow. She loves being turned into "art".
By Monday it's off for slides and to the framer. It's going in a show called Fashion and Figures at the end of the month.
Cindy, this is so pretty. I love this technique that you used. :)

this turned out really nice cindy! I love how you handled the light, my eye goes first to the bright yellow of her right shoulder, then to the flower, and finally to her nose and face.
I like it!

Your unique style with circulism lends itself beautifully to this painting, it gives it a very nostalgic feel which I like very much.
I just adore the simplicity of the pose she is in, so intent on that little flower. There is a lovely juxtaposition between the simple freshness of that flower and your granddaughters innate curiosity, her enjoyment of its scent and her wonder at the flower -that freshness of youth that we lose as we get older. I know what I want to say but I cant quite put it into words -sorry if my words are confusing and make no sense, I cant quite bring forward what it is I get from this gorgeous portrait and put it down in the form of words.
I hope you can at least get a sense of what an impact this portrait has on me  .
beautiful work as usual Cindy, just inspiring! :)
Big Hugs,
ALI
