I'm applying to an art school in another province and I'm lucky enough to be going on a family holiday close to where the school is. I didn't think I'd be able to visit the school before I went (if I'm lucky enough to get accepted) so this trip to an hour outside of the city is a great stroke of luck. I emailed the school and asked about getting a tour but got no reply. Do you think these sorts of places generally give tours in the summer for people who just walk in off the street? Or do you think I should just be grateful for being able to see the outside of the place for now?

Well, if nothing else you probably can just wander around inside the building a bit. Probably examples of students work around (maybe not in the summer?) or other things that might give you a better idea of what the place is like.

Stop in at the office and see if they have a career person who might have a few minutes. Tell them you are just in for the day from out of province. Worth a try if you are already there.

Are you coming to check out NSCAD by any chance??

Well, the purpose of the trip wasn't to check out NSCAD per se, it's a family holiday, but it's awesome that I'll be able to! I leave for Mahone Bay this weekend, I can't wait! Do you know if they do tours or anything?

Hey thats fun! I'm at home in lunenburg at the moment (10 minutes from mahone bay), will be going out to mahone bay this afternoon to visit my dad :p My stepmom owns a little shop out there, The Bear Necessities if you happen to stop in and visit LOL

I dont know any tours persay, though you can always check with the students services office on the second floor (tho i donno if there'd be anyone there on the weekends). But if you want me to show you around you can gimme a shout via pm, since i dont work saturday or sunday. I think the buskers festival starts this week in halifax, too, so your in for a treat down by the waterfront :D How long are you gonna be in hfx for?

We're driving so we won't be in until Sunday night, thanks for the offer though, that's really nice of you! Since we're driving we'll only be there for about 6 days unfortunately, but 6 days is better than nothing. Ah well, I spose I don't really need to see the inside, I'll see it lots when (if I'm accepted) I go ha ha.

Awe well. If your not gonna be down until sunday it must be quite a trek for you to get here. I cant remember where your from. Oh well.

Halifax is a good place. During the weekdays you'll probably have better luck getting a tour through student services than on the weekends & i think the buskers festival goes on for atleast a week or so. If anything. you can probably just get in the school to look around on your own, just careful not to get lost lol it can be easy to do. But the ppl are pretty understanding and quick to offer advice when you get lost lol if you still need someone to show you around tho you more than welcome to drop me a line. I live in downtown by school and dont have nothing much better to do lol This would be a good time to go through the school, too, since the summer semester is winding to a close so you'll be able to see a lot of the student's finished projects and stuff. Its neet!

Anjoy your trip!

I'm in Ontario. We could get there Saturday night if we drove straight through but we're taking our time, staying the night in Quebec and picking up some more family at the airport Sunday morning. It's still quite the distance though.

We'll probably be in Lunenburg to see the Bluenose II. I'm expecting Halifax to be a good place like you say, I never heard anything but praise about it. I'd take you up on your offer to show me around but I'll have my mum and aunt with me when I look at the school so I'm not sure when I'll get over there. Thanks for the offer though, that's really kind. I see you have that same Nova Scotia friendliness I've heard so much about. ;)
