Well, I've been going to other forums to check what's out there. I have now gotten the pics together for posting and I wanted to try one in here. This one is a multi-medium piece, using conte' pastels, colored pencils, and ink. I have an avid collector of my mermaids(this being the 3rd one) and I'm getting ready to do one in oils soon. the size is approx 14" x 17". any and all comments are welcome.

Very nice, Coolray! The muscles and anatomy are delineated beautifully. Especially the hair and the fins of the tail remind me of the illustrations of Margaret Evans Price, who did the pictures for a book on myths that I had as a child. Of course she didn't go in for frontal nudity since she drew for children's books, but her work has much the same spirit as yours.

Where are all these buff women in real life! (models)
I agree this reminds me of some illustrations I looked at over at Grandmas ages ago. Real nifty throw-back but with the edgy "peeling out of her scaley flesh" kind thing going.
It is even a tight, well framed little composition!
The media work really well and I guess I have nothing but good stuff to say!
Ok, get out there and post!

Thanks for all the kind remarks:) I thought graceful was what was on my mind when I did this. Buff? LOL I didn't even have that in mind!:D I did think that she was toned up a bit. The owner of this piece commented on both the tailfin and the transition at the waist from fish to woman. That so far has been the reasons that he has purchased all my mermaids. This is my favorite version so far.
I am scouting out a new "buffed" model for the oil painting that I want to do. This will be a side project for me this winter. I will post an ongoing progress as often as I can.
Again thanks leslie, djstar, for the nice comments!:)

I'm trying to think of who's work it reminds me of...
I really like those fins. More than the extra-buff torso, which is done really well, too.
DJ - once a woman's abs are that heavily built, odds are she'll never be able to share her genes with the next generation. She'll either stop menstruating or would need a c-section to not have her muscles ripped apart completely while giving birth. So don't feel bad - more natural-built women are favoured by natural selection in the long run. LOL

Nathangill: It reminds me a lot of the fantasy style of Boris. Is that who you were thinking of?
Absolutely stunning! One of my favorite styles right here on good ol' Wet Canvas! Thank you for sharing your work. I like how the ribs have the look almost of scales or gills.
