Hi,

Now that I have found out where to buy some boro buy the rod. I would like to see if I can have a little more help I would like to see pictures of the boro beads you guy's have made with the color names that have been used to make them and also if you could tell me if the color comes out totally different when heated. As what they look like before they are heated. I hope that made sense... I know some strike. But Boro is so expensive I don't want to get colors that are not attractive. I know too that sometimes the name has nothing to do with the color. And some sites don't show the color for some reason. As much as it cost's you would think they would. ANY kind of help on Boro would be appreciated.

Thanks once again in advance!

Allison

since you're in kc...

I'm going through the same situation myself, I bought drew fritts contemporary marble book and the boro bead magic video and those helped.

here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34070&item=4911303840) is one I liked, it was black, w/ caramel luster and royal blue.

here's another one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34070&item=4911298179) that I only used clear and indigo luster on, it can change to many colors and you can get a fuzzy halo around it.

There are many factors and different ways to strike, these are a matter of debate, I'd do whatever you are comfortable with, I'm still experimenting.

You can always stick w/ the colors that say wysiwyg, they are fairly consistent, but I'd try any of the polychromatic series or lusters for fun, just know you might get a suprise.

I haven't done much with boro- I work mostly with soft glass, but I've dabbled enough that I feel like I can comment here...

My favorite colors: (NS= NorthStar; GA= Glass Alchemy- these are the two main mfgrs of boro color in the US... I've also found that these are a little more consistent and nicer to work with than GlassTronics or Borostix...)

These are all pretty reactive colors- you can get a wide variety of shades using just one of them. I've described what the rod looks like before working in the flame.

NS Amber Purple and NS Double Amber Purple- rod looks like a light yellow for amber purple and a darker topaz/ amber for the double amber purple.
NS Butterscotch (this is fun in frit)- rod a light tan(ish) color (seems opaque in rod but looks more transparent in frit)
NS Turbo Cobalt - a dark transparent cobalt; looks almost black
NS Multi - a dark transparent green

GA Caramel Luster- opaque(ish) light caramel color
GA Blue Luster (this is a big fave) - a medium transparent blue color.

The first set (I'm pretty sure) is GA Blue Luster with a heavy gold fume, clear dots, and burned off remaining gold fume.

The second bead is entirely Amber Purple. You can get much darker, more purple and amber shades, but I liked the peachiness of this one so I didn't strike it too much in the flame.

Hope this helps!
