Hi All,
About 20 years ago I bought this woodcut in a junk shop. I was told he was a good artist and it was a bargain. I recently remembered that I had it and it was in the attic. So I got it down. There is a little damage to the mount, but otherwise it is ok.
It is of St Donats Castle in Wales.

Was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about him?

I think there was an American Charles White as well, he must be different, I think.

Thanks in anticipation,
Nick

It looks like a lovely woodcut. And it looks like he definitely knew what he was doing. If I were you, I'd frame it immediately or, at the very least, make sure it's protected.

I don't know about White, but that certainly puts me on a quest. Does it have a date? Could you let me know what the inscriptions are on the bottom?

Diane

Hi Diane,
The Inscription is:-

4/75 1973 'St. Donats Castle, Wales' Charles White

It is framed, it just does not show in the picture, but the mount has some puncture holes.

Thanks
Nick

It reminds me of the work of Mary Higgens, who authored a Walter Foster book reguarding print-making. I'm seeing atleast 3 plates. I think this may be your man:

That was my thought, too, kitten. This Charles White is an Afro-American artist who died in 1979. I couldn't find any information about him going to Wales (or Europe for that matter) nor could I find anything architectural on the web. I just feel the style of the building and the style of his people are so different.

But the time period is right. Is there any one else out there with any ideas?
