View Full Version : Bark study

I recently bought Painter 8, and thought I'd post this doodling. It is from an old Polariod photo. Finished this evening.

I used mostly acrylic brushes and sponges, with a little "Just Add Water" for blending and an airbrush down the sides for a little ambient light. I had intended to do this using entirely opaques, but I quickly realized my photo was too small to accurately ascertain the texture. So I blended and smudged abit.

- 6 layers
- 1500x2000 resolution (the original looks much better, texture detail is lost in this tiny thing...)

Hope somebody enjoys it.

WOW !!
You've got the texture of a mesquite tree bark.!!

For showing better details, you might post a close up of any part of the picture.

Well done !!

Excuse me, I suffer Turette's syndrome, among other things... BARK BARK BARK!!!

I apologize. I couldn't help that. Really.

Yes, it is quite a lot of bark. Bark.

Thanks for the kind words, Jet L. I've attached a close-up. Some of the line-work is a little sloppy but it dissolves nicely standing back. I don't think it is a mesquite tree, but the photo is bad. I ended up rounding the bark more than it should be, and lessening the amount it overlaps -- probably because I got lazy... Still I'm happy with it.

Going to bed now,

Well...I enjoyed it..Welcome to WC!!!

SIGH....I really WISH Jet and KBill would behave...SOME of us have morals and common decency here.

If I find out who I promise to to currupt them in any way I can

Welcome! Nice work. Don't worry kbill's bark is worse than his bite... he's just a puppy. ;)

Thanks for the welcome everybody. I'll hopefully be able to post more in the future, and check-out some of your cool stuff.

BTW I just get Painter 8 and rumor is Painter 9 is coming:
I hope it's not a major overhaul... I'd love to see more realistic sponges. Imagine a true 3-D sponge that you could rotate above the canvas, getting edges, corners...
