CarlyHardy

I'd like to keep up with wetcanvas artists who are selling thru ebay. I like to buy art from someone I know, too! So here's my ID and how to find me at ebay. Please add your info to this list!

Ebay ID: carlyart
http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/carlyart
Search CARLYART
Search eSR@ (self-representing "circle of artists")

Thanks everyone!

Hi, Carly

as you probably already know, I sell at eBay under "arteitaliana" . I don't see a list where I can add my name....

I'd love having a place to be able to find everybody's auctions. When Lee bid on my parrot, I didn't know it was her at first because I didn't know what her ID was. :(

Hope Scott wouldn't think of it as advertising or conflict of interest (whatever that means!). We just want to support each other or at least we should, don't you think?

BTW, the link on all my posts links to my pieces for sale on Art-Agent as many of ya'll's do too. We must not forget those! :)

Search for me with TINA-M, which is in all my auction titles. The art ones at least. I'm trying to build up my "brand", my website is tina-m.com and soon I'll be diverting all my email through @tina-m.com too. :D Doncha love progress?

(my ebay ID is currently my email address, but since excite@home has just filed for bankrupcy I may change just in case)

Tina.

P.S. Lee, you're artchick! The one who posts on the ebay boards? I'm Timelady.

Yes, Tina I'm artchick48. LOL.

Not much wisdom in using your age in the id except that I'll forever be 48! My Me Page has a photo ( different from my WC one ) that says " Me, An Old Artchick!". Hee hee.

I love to check out everyone's auctions whose id's are showing here. I also check out Beverly Fagan by putting in her name. And of course, I'm always checking out Jeff Cohen and all the cat painters too. I like to buy too when I have some extra $.

One woman who bought my Valentine Cat never paid me so I never sent it to her.

I'm sure you know you can file a non paying bidder alert with ebay and after 7 or 10 days (I forget which) you can file to get your money back that they charged you for the sale. I had to do that once. A buyer just didn't reply after my first email to him! I filed my notice...and ebay sends them a warning and copies you on it. Then you can relist the painting immediately if you want to...you do not have to wait on the buyer to change their mind or something.

Also another thing....about getting your email addy as your user name. I don't think you can do that anymore! I remember something about that in a message not long ago. Of course if my email changed...I'd want to change my user name too!

Well, that sucks, TeAnne! Did she ever email you? I read you can file a NPB ( non paying buyer/bidder??? ) report with ebay and get your fees back. And you should have neg'd her too.

I had one buyer I had to remind, but she emailed back and said thought she paid when she clicked the Buy It Now. She did email me when she received and said it was wonderful and promised to leave feedback but never did, I checked her FB and she had left 2/3 less feedback than she received!

Yep, I did all the right things through ebay and she replied that she was going to send me books from Amazon.com in loo of the money but she never replied again. Been way too long now to winge to ebay again, so I have been billed. I just put it down to learning. Can I stop her from bidding on future auctions?

I gave her a negative:

I have sent you email concerning your purchase. Did you receive it?
Follow-up : Was unable to send Item to mariapeter, due to non payment after Auction.

Yes, I believe that you can block certain people from bidding. You may have to do it from your My eBay page. I'm not sure where or how but do think you can do it.
Look on the instruction page and I believe it is subtitle Block bidders.

Sure. Go to the selling tab, then to the bottom of the page.
There's a link for "block or pre-approve certain bidders".

MARIAPETER!!!! AAAAAAARGH! This is the woman who was CLUELESS with my auctions! She won 2 at the end of July - for a total of $230. I contacted her saying thanks, pay with PayPal (my only accepted method for people in the US). After about 2 WEEKS she said she has trouble with PayPal and will work it out. I find out she registered with PayPal 3 months earlier - so she hasn't been trying to sort it out. After 30 days of desperate emails she finally answers and says she'll sort it out. 40 days and I tell her I'll take a check. She sends check. It takes ages to get here. I endorse it, send it back to my bank in the US, and today (about 70 days later) I received it in the post again because she hadn't written it out to anyone! (now, why would I check that? I usually check the amount, sign the back and stick 'em in envelopes). So around day 90 I expect her check to clear. Then I get to transfer it to PayPal to pay myself so I can have it in my accounting records. Aaaaargh.

Please please please leave this woman a neg! Oh, you can't. FILE A NPB REPORT!!!! Why should you pay your fees and final value fee when she broke the rules? File NPB on her and she'll get a warning. She doesn NOT read our terms of sale and should not get away with it any longer. You can file NPB up to 90 days after auction end I think.

Tina.

TeAnne

Oh no, she got you too Tina :(
I can do nothing really, cos now it's been 5 months.
I did get ebay to remind her ages ago and she wrote back apologizing and saying she didn't know how to do the Aussie dollar thing, so thats when we agreed on the books that never came. :(
I hope your spot of bother with her gets sorted out soon. Hell that's a long time to wait for a cheque to clear. :(
Good luck Tina.

Hey Gecko, like that stuff. It's hard to tell if you're an artist or an agent from your listings. Put a bit more history about yourself in your description, and also on your aboutMe page. :) Looks like you're an experienced ebayer though. My feedback hit 60 this week! Wheee! One day I'll have that glorious 100.

Tina.

CarlyHardy
10-06-2001, 09:21 AM
Glad you found our ebay list! I checked out your art that is listed...really nice drawings. Geckographics does sound like a business...as already suggested, I'd add more about who you are in the description area so bidders will know you are a self-representing artist. I see that you've joined ebsq....that will help, too.

Also, when your work has a cubist style...like in the faces piece, put "cubist" in the title...it's a popular search word!

Hey you guys...Tina, Carly, Thanks for the tips. I need to add more info about myself on my auctions I guess... I decided to add a few random computer gear auctions in with the art to get some cross bidding...they're the only items with bids, of course. My next auctions will be better...promise. I even forgot to add gallery images! Pretty bad to have a pictures for sale that have no gallery images.

Jason! Nice to see you here in the WetCanvas forums too!

I've only been selling on ebay for a few months. I began in May of this year then took off in mid July until Sept...and then came back with new work which has done really well this month!

Ebay is a new experience for all of us here at WetCanvas so we are working together to support one another and provide some input from our experience. We have a sub forum within the Art Business category where you will find a lot of our combined knowledge. It's the Online Sales Strategies at the top when you open the Art Business category. Check it out!

I am still learning about online auction selling...it definitely is not like the virtual gallery reality!

TeAnne - it was sort of sorted. The cheque did eventually arrive and cleared - about 90 days after the auction ended. Then I shipped. She was very grateful and all but it just p***es me off because I can't afford a 90-day wait for payment, even on something small (and she purchased $250 worth). Unfortunately it's past the date I can leave feedback.

Since getting the paintings she has bid on another (but not won). I wary about working with her again even though I've changed my policy to accept money orders. But also not sure if I should block her and miss another potential high sale. *sigh*

I have quite a lot listed at the moment. Still going on the Open Studio theme, not sure it's helped but a few things have shifted. On a whim I've listed a few expensive items (ie. paintings that I would actually exhibit) but their UK only if you want to view them. Search on TINA-M

Anyway, what would everyone think to putting "wetcanvas" in our descriptions somewhere? Having everyone's ID is nice but a quick search on wetcanvas including descriptions would make it easier to keep up with everyone. :) Nothing big, just the word somewhere, even at the end of the listing. Whatcha think?

I've had great success with selling erotic art. Believe it or not, there are scads and scads of erotic art collectors out there with some serious $$. I have several regular/repeat customers. In fact, the guy that won this last auction has already asked me about doing some commissions for him!

Currently, I don't have any more ready to list but I am in the process of working on two. I am also commissioned to do a portrait. And now these new commissions from the ebay buyer. They sure keep me hopping!

That auction was my first time trying the Buy It Now feature. My hubby suggested I give it a try and WOW! I about fell off my chair when it sold so fast!

CarlyHardy

Chris...that's a beautiful photo! Hope you do well with your work on ebay!

Note to everyone!!!

Recently we had a thread about how to find one another on ebay...and since our list of e-sellers has gotten so lengthy, someone suggested a simpler way to find all of our auctions.

We decided to place wetcanvas as one word into the description of our auctions. We can then use that one word in search to find all the artists who are "members of wetcanvas" on the ebay site!

When I sign my name at the end of my auctions, I place the "member of wetcanvas" after my name. That's legal with the ebay rules since I'm giving more information about myself as the artist in the description area. We cannot link to Wet Canvas or give a plug for Wet Canvas in our descriptions....that can be done on the About Me Page!

I hope more of you will join in....it's fun to be able to use one search word and find all the great WetCanvas artists at ebay!

carly

We don't use the color red as I did above...that was just for emphasis in this message!

I have never posted here and don't even know how to get a picture up but here it goes! I am on Ebay at http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/zed05 and have not been real successful. I have been inquiring and find that originals sell better than prints so may have to try it this fall. Thanks for any input!

Jane, firstly welcome to WC!! Im sure you will enjoy your stay here:) . I went and checked out your work and it is amazing! You will have to make a point of venturing over to the watercolour forum. Im sure you will enjoy it there.
You are right that originals do sell better then prints on eBay. I see you have not sold a lot, I do not know how much you have listed over time. The trick is that you have to build a following. Continuously list, mainly originals with the odd print thrown in until you have established a following. Your prices should be started fairly low to begin with-many buyers are leary of paying a high price for some one they do not know. I would suggest doing smaller originals for sale on eBay to start to off but do continue to include some of your giclees or lithographs. You may want to look into offering cheaper, open editions as well. Hope this helps you some...:) :)

Reminder to all.....if you want other members of Wet Canvas to find you easily....put

in your description somewhere. Then we can search by descriptions for wetcanvas and all the members auctions will come up in search. This is not against any of ebays rules if you're telling more about yourself, the artist.

My ebay user name is maca9

This is my first time selling on ebay. I don't plan to keep doing
the ebay though. I just thought I'd throw some of my small
paintings out there.

I prefer to do larger paintings and I put too much time into
my work. I'm currently working on my first themed body
of work for an upcoming exhibit, so ebay isn't really an option
for me at this point. Its been fun though. I got a thrill out of
getting my first bid the other day. It's nice to know somebody
is actually looking at my stuff.

Oh boy, I just put up 6 (SIX!) pieces up and forgot to put that in there. I'll add it in a day or 2. I'm just really tired now.

My seller page is here (http://cgi6.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=Lenora_D&completed=0&sort=2&since=-1&include=0&page=1&rows=25). Seller name: Lenora_D .

When I did a wetcanvas search on Ebay a few minutes ago, several of the auctions had no gallery pictures. This morning, I found that my gallery pics weren't showing although I had specifed "gallery pic". I clicked on "help" (I think that's where I clicked), and it showed me what to do to correct the problem. You all may want to check your auctions to see if the gallery pics are showing.

I don't do ebay that often, but I am currently cleaning out some old stuff. I've price my old works at about 30-50% of my normal asking price.... so if you find anything you like, you can get a pretty descent deal on it. I got toooooo much art, and need a home for some of it. I typically don't sell new works on ebay, but I have 2 small oil studies listed now.

Sandra, I rarely write in here so hope I am doing this right!!! I really like what you are doing on Ebay! I think there is a method to this madness!!! By selling small, easy to ship pieces, you make it an easy to purchase item. I really enjoyed seeing what you are doing. My work doesn't lend itself to this type of sales but I think I may start to do some smaller pieces with Ebay in mind. My website is www.janefreeman.com and I have an Ebay site but it is not currently active. I think this fall I will get back into it. I really have enjoyed seeing what all of you are doing! Keep up the good work! Janie:clap:

Thank you so much Nina! but now you can see since I am into detail...I can't pop them out for Ebay! Ha! I have sold some giclees on Ebay but in visiting with other artists there...they seem to sell prints only if they are also selling originals...at least they do better then. Is that what everyone else has found to hold true? I wish I were more computer savy but just typing here is testing my ability! Ha! I see all the buttons above and freek out! Anyway, there certainly is a talent to doing Ebay and some are very good at marketing. I have met one person who quit her nursing job and is making a living there selling her art!!!!! Amazing! Janie

I've been on ebay for just 2 weeks and have already sold 3 drawings. Its great not having to wait for an end of year exhibition. I read alot of posts at wetcanvas but I haven't made many submissions.

Anyway:

Just type in "Kuhl" in the search engine. I am currently on the Australian ebay but post internationally, so I show up on ebay.com which is great.

I am now buying artworks for all gifts/Christmas etc (some I can't bear to give up and keep for myself) and I would love to "support the cause" by bidding on your ebay work - BUT -

I don't have the attention span to wade through the thousands of listings and "type"s (I buy on impulse and am drawn to a variety of "kinds" of art).

I also am not inclined to search out your particular "ebay name" or go through the machinations to find out who YOU are on ebay.

If there was just an ongoing sticky list that WC ebay sellers could enter their ebay "handle"....then when I'm in an ebay art browsing/bidding mood I could refer to the list, even print it and have it handy while visiting art at ebay.

surreal

Mame,
You can search for many WC'ers who sell on ebay by doing a search which is simply "WC!" without the quotation marks.

Many WC'ers are using WC! in their ebay auction titles.

:D

Mama, you might also be interested in checking out the Ebay Stores. I always try to explain that browsing my Ebay Gallery (Ebay Store) can be a much easier option than just browsing my auctions. The reason for that is in my Ebay Gallery I have everything separated by category. That way if you are only interested in Realistic as opposed to Abstract, you can pinpoint things easier.

I'm actually a bit bummed about the WC! thing. I liked it the other way. Before we didn't need to take up any title space and could still pull a list of wetcanvas folk by just searching via description. Now I'll be left out of the listing as I don't have any title space available on 99% of my auctions. =( I don't understand why taking up our already limited title space is a better idea when we have unlimited description space. I'm glad ya'll are enjoying it but it's now leaving some people out in the dark.
