just finished this painting done in acrylics on canvas board 12"x16" with black gesso background, i painted black background because i wanted to match it up with my lion and hawk paintings so that i can exhibit them as a set in a forth coming exhibition that i am hoping to enter.i had great fun painting this my first white tiger but it is great to get back to painting the animals i love to paint TIGERS   p.s. all c+c welcome as usual (photo does show painting slightly lighter than it is especially the ears)

Lovely work Gordon, I think the background really pushes the tiger forward.

thanks gayle, i agree i love the effect you get painting on the black background but it does make you lazy you tend to want to just forget painting a background although i think with animal portraits such as this it is very effective

I particularly like the way the light falls down his face.
The dark background is really beautiful- These cats will look fantastic all hanging together!

thank you mel, yes there are a lot of colours in the painting but i paint what i see and there are no such thing as a pure white tiger and if you paint them that way you end up with a flat unrealistic image and that is not what we are aiming for but i am glad you mentioned the different colours because there was a young 16 year old who was asking about painting tigers and i believe that when painting anything (especially animals with white fur) you must remember light feflects colour from everything it shines on and so you can get greens reflected from grass and blue even reflected from water or the sky which all adds up to the mass of different colours you need to add to get a more realistic image, thank you for mentioning it

I like the subtlety with which you have shown the light on his fur - very nice job
