Painting Palm Trees

I have been trying to paint Palm Trees, but so far have not really been successful. Anyone have any pointers for me.

Further in this forum is a question about "Fan brushes" can someone explain. In that there is a reply by Rob that shows how to use a fan brush to paint palm fronds. He has other lessons that are equally helpful.
