First post in Still Life

[A Few Pigments]

This is my first posting in this forum. The five paintings were done between 07/03 and a current WIP. All of these are in oils and in a direct method. I also paint in acrylics but those are too horrible to ever see the light of day again.

The first one from the left is Gray Garden Glove a WIP. I love warm hues so painting this was like going home again.
The second one is Eclectic Shell. This is an experiment in playing primaries against secondries. I think the secondries lost.
The third one is Red Candle. Another experiment in playing primaries against secondries
The forth one is White Plate. Love those warm hues.
The fifth and last one is Pink Napkin a WIP. Another experiment in playing primaries against secondries.

All but Gray Garden Glove and Pink Napkin are finished. Although I don’t think any of them really had much of a chance from the start. DOA if you know what I mean. All of these are scanned and so have some lines that shouldn’t be there.

Its going to be hard for anyone to comment on these because there are so many posted here and it would be better if you would post a few at a time and let people comment on them before going on to post more, but here is my take on these as a group: As a GROUP they seem to need a better foundation before painting, underlayer or solid drawing to get the forms more solid, more straight, ect. Some paintings need better values, such as cast shadow on the wall, the fabric, the table top as well as values on the objects themselves. Your strong points are your ability to paint glass really well, your willingness to experiment with color, set-ups. The monitor of this site, Arlene could give you better tips about settings and drawings but its going to take her quite a while to critique all of these. Maybe she could pick out just one for a demostration in how to better draw and compose still life. Arlene?

bruce i'd like to comment on these separately. first i'd like to hear your opinion as to which one you feel is your most successful one and why.

would you be willing to just post the one you like the best first as a separate thread, and then i'll remove this thread?
