I was late starting to do the download of the pictures last night. And with so many great pictures it took almost 45 minutes to get them all. That left me with about a half an hour yesterday to work on this and I finished it this afternoon. I love the expression on this gentleman!

I painted the right side of this and didn't even notice the man or his expression. You have captured it so well. I am tempted to practice my drawing with this, too, and will use yours to help me figure out the shadows. That is a challenge.

I didn't notice him either, but what a face! Great job on capturing it!

The expression is so well done in your sketch that I almost feel guilty for staring at the old gentleman- he sees me watching !! And I hadn't seen this ref photo (also due to download problems) so I thank you for including it. Gotta admit, I'd have overlooked him back there when I saw it if you hadn't chosen him for your subject ! Great drawing with great effect !

you've done a great job isolating an interesting and unexpected subject. A successful translation of character from photo to rendering....Nice!!

Absolutely agree 100% with what Preston said. A super character drawing, your shading is lovely.

Marvellous drawing -- love the consistency of your hatchmarks (if that's the right name for the shading lines). It gives the whole thing a kind of elegance or simplicity that's very appealing; helps focus attention on his expression.

I hadn't seen this photo either, it's one of about 5 that didn't download for me. So glad you saw it, though! :)

Thank-you everyone, you're all :angel:s . I had to hit the refresh button over and over again untill all the ref pictures came in! I think its a good argument to get DSL! I wonder if my husband would agree? All of the ref shots where great and there are a lot I would like to try! The fun part of these WDE's is to see all of the work and how everyone sees the pictures differently!

Great WDE! See y'all next week!

I started to comment on this awesome sketch days ago, but computer wouldn't co-operate. It's so expressive, and good for you for finding him and focusing in on him!
