This is the 2 hour stage. A kind of first sketch really. Its gouache on cartridge paper about 10 by 12 ins. I may work on it with soft pastels to even out the skin tones...and adjust things....later on in the week.
Too tired to do more today.
I loved both of the girl's photos.
PS Poor little girl, she looks so grim...must have been concentrating too hard!!

Huh, 2 hours! This would take me a week and not look this good. Good job!
Hey, this is good! I don't know that you need to even out the skintones...I like this approach, I say leave it and sign it!

I agree with Sue -leave it as is -looks lovely and fresh. I don't think she looks grim -more pondering :) Nice portrait and in only 2 hours !!!!!

This is wonderful June ! I agree tht it doesn't need the skin tones evened. I love seeing the brushwork.
P.S. She looks so grim because it was about 5 degrees outside and her mom was ready to go home. She did not want to open the door. LOL.

I love the color you used in her face. This expression is well captured.

Her little pouty lips are sooo sweet. And the skintones look awesome...
And all in 2 hrs!!! I'm with Kyle on that......it would take me a least a week!!!
Great portrait!

June, wonderful work. I think her expression is priceless . It is so natural. She was probably ticked off and someone or something. Loved the children shots but I'm not good at these.
Love what you hae done so far will check back to see if you redo or add to this one.

She looks so good, her eyes, and face, It already looks at a finished work to me.

I hate to be a "jump on the bandwagon " kind of guy, but I don't know how to make it any better, either...... the colors are so fresh!
A really sweet portrait, I agree with the others, don't alter a thing, the eyes and little mouth are just lovely.

Thanks all for commenting. Now that I've slept on it and read the comments. I think I will leave it as is. Probably best to quit whilst it looks fine. Otherwise I may overwork it.
Now to go and look at all the other work ...may see a few...but may have to leave most until the evening...got to go into town this morning.

I'm so glad you decided to leave it alone, knowing when to quit and leave well enough alone is such a difficult thing (witness my effort this week ! ) This is such a candid moment, and you have captured it so perfectly !!

Also glad to hear you're not changing it. It is so expressive this way! Especially the skin tones! Very playfull! I think that's the look my daughter gives me when I bundle her up - her friends are probably waiting for her outside & her mom HAS to take a picture... LOL

This has lots of character. The colors set a mood quite appropriate for a child.

This is lovely, the colours are wonderful and her expression is priceless - amazing work in 2 hours. I agree with the others that it's complete as it is, so glad you decided to leave it.
Nice painting without considering that you only worked on it 2 hours! Amazing.
I especially like the expression in the eyes.

Real good, June. A portrait is hard enough, but a child's portrait is very tricky for most folks. Very appropriate colors too.

Lovely job on this lovely child! I considered doing this one, too, but I doubt I would have achieved the same great fresh portrait you have done!
Well done!

I also am glad you were persuaded to leave it alone! It looks so fresh and spontaneous, yet is very well executed, lovely color harmony throughout, the whole shebang!
