I finished the floor on this piece a couple days ago and have spent the last two days doing other stuff since I can't figure where to take it - I have the final consept in my head - I just can't figure out how to approach the texture for those walls and stuff. The attempts I've done - wheter it's with just slopping up some paint or applying regular textures - nothing seems to work for one reason or other... and I can't scrap this and move on as I would normally do when I hit the wall as I've invested a LOT of time preparing frames for the animation in this scene.

(pay no attention to the lighting and the lack of colors as that's what I do last anyway - some of the shadows are there - but the room is a lot brighter than what I intend it to be - oh and there'll be some animated machines on that elevated place there)

so? any suggestions on what I could do? (feel free to demonstrate by tweaking my pic)

Well, I'm not sure exactly what to recommend. When I look at this I see something very industrial. That floor reminds me of some sort of machine factory or industrial place. You mentioned that there will be animated machines too. I'm thinking maybe a metallic finish. Very dark greyish, steel like, um, maybe with some bits of rust or faded dark bits of paint here and there. Maybe like metal paneling where you can see the edges butting up next to each other with some sheet metal screw heads here and there to help hold up the siding. I think that is should be darker too. Dark shadows in that back corner.

Well, that was my stab at it. :) Feel free to disregard it all if it is not withing your vision. :)

have you tried going to a real fac close by where you liveand get some ideas from there ?

Just an idea, if that doesn't work at least you got to get out of your 'lab' for a while....

Well my friend, i'm out of 'bulbs' now my only wish is:
.....May the bolt of inspiration strikes on you soon !!

well,... I'm going with the ol' brickwall. I tried it before with textures, but was't happy with the result so I decided to paint it all by hand, gawd it's boring to paint bricks... now it looks like a creepy cellar or something - which isn't half bad I guess...

it's awfully busy, tho...add animated machines on top of it and it might have too much going on visually. what if you changed the bricks to cinderblocks? just an idea...

I hear ya, and the final image won't be this "busy" once I add the lighting to the scene - I just have this habit of painting "everything" not just what's neccessary - most will be hidden in dark shadow in the end. Plus the image will be cropped since I will animate a very tight pan over the image.

here's where I'm at now: (not sure if I'm happy with the metal texture)
