You have inspired me. I'll get out my watercolours and start painting as soon as I finish my other paintings.

Can I do some in gouache? (some count this as a watercolour medium)

Does one sign up for this, or simply post one's painting in the thread--which is always assuming creativity strikes and time graciously allows me to paint--?

JanJones
06-09-2004, 12:09 PM
Rich, hope you do sign up and let us see that painting.

Godzoned, will look forward to your paintings, actually all mediums are fine with me, I know the project says watercolor and I really wanted to say all mediums but I must have filled out the form incorrect. Paintings can be of anything as long as it includes at least one hat.....

Riene, yes you will need to sign up, just click on the content areas (tab at the top of this page) and then click on art project systems and there you will find "Hats Galore"
Looking forward to seeing your paintings.

Watercolor, 9 x 12 140lb cold. I got a new book on painting figures and just had to try this one, it was only supposed to be a practice piece but I am keeping it, not perfect but so fun.

Love this. Has a certain comedy feel about it.
Looks like it belongs in a childrens picture/story book. (its a complement)

JanJones

Debbie, you are right, it would be cute in a childrens book. I have to laugh when I look at it, I was trying to learn to do figures and this is what came out, just could not trash it. Thanks for looking.

Well here is my first entry. I have three others I want to paint - pending on when the baby arrives. Love the change and challenge of watercolours after doing acrylic and oils for a while.

I've been dabbling alot in oils lately which I have dropped because of the turps smell. And Painting in Acrylics which is my favourite medium. This has been a nice refreshing medium to work in. Even though they are ultra cheapy Reeves watercolours!

I like your baby hats, they look so soft just as they should. The colors are just great, I have used Reeves for about 1 1/2 years and I am just beginning to buy the artish quality paints, Winsor and Newton and M. Graham. The Reeves were just great as I was new to watercolor. Thanks for your contribution to this project and will be looking forward to seeing more of your hats...

Here is my WIP for Hats Galore. I have a really cheap digi camera so I hope you will be able to see it. I have never painted something this small with so much detail so am really on pins and needles with this one. It is about 5"x7".
Am using Artistico Cold Press paper and W&N paint.

JanJones

Sharon, looks like your hats are really going to be nice, very anxious to see the finish. One red close to another does present a delima, wonder if a bit of purple blended in would break them apart?

SharonZC
06-12-2004, 05:02 PM
Jan.....thanks for the suggestion.....am trying to make them each a different tone and shade and the flowers and other decorations on them are purple so purple shadows would be perfect. Wanted to get painting today but haven't had time.....too much laundry etc., etc......and office work....yuck. :(

I do want to try to finish the hats this weekend, though. I have the neighbor's house to paint and so far have done nothing on that either other than the basic drawing.

Jan....I love your Navy painting and I bet your hubby did, too!

Well, off to look around WC for a bit and then back to work.....thanks for the compliment!

One thing I do admire about you Americans is that you are so patriotic to your flag and your nation. I wish New Zealanders were as enthusatsic about those things as you are.

Great job on the painting. But I think it needs some overlap to link the items together to get rid of the "floating" effect. How about the marine rope extented from the anchor. Paint it behind the hat and make it into the rope that raises the flag. This would link all these items together more. Great shading!

JanJones
06-13-2004, 08:49 PM
Thank's Debbie for the help, yes, I agree it needs to be tied together and when I finished it I had that thought but was not sure how to do it. I will try your suggestion and repost the painting. Yes we are a patriotic bunch. Hope you are feeling o.k. and your have a very healthy baby.
