I love the strong limited values. They are so sure and so right on.
This is the best example of what I tell some of my friends to look for in the shadow shapes.

The scan is very blue. I'm still having problems scanning works on paper and getting the paper to be vaguely white....

I have the same problem. My scanner does its best and I usually take a lot of scans and piece them together, but I use my photo editing program to bump up values or balance colors.
TO me it looks more like the original, but all we are doing is sharing with friends. A tweak here or there is not messing with the integrity.
Also, if it is just black wash on white paper, try a gray scan. I do that with my charcoals. Just elimate the non essential.
