Really a dog to cuddle, so I had to try.... I worked about an hour, on canson 8x6, 85 lbs. First with a HB pencil then a 3B.
Thanks Noma for the wonderful pictures!! :D

What a cutie -- and a great catch by pencil artist! This is so appealing. :)

You did a great job, Joanna. I look into his eyes and can almost feel him looking back and his fur looks big and fluffy.

Only an hour? I am impressed. You've really captured this dog's personality. You've drawn him as he is - cute and cuddly and furry, yet kind of proud, with intense eyes. The drawing is flawless. I'm jealous of people who can do good doggie noses. :)
Reamus, BTW, is quite pleased with his portrait, too.

You have caught his essence with just a basic drawing.

Wow, just an hour?? LOVE his eyes! very squeezable pooch!
Yes, you captured him. This reference was in my final list but I decided on George. It was a wonderful reference and you did a good job with him.

Thank you all so much for the kindly comments. I use to do the very detailed portraits, hours and hours of work. I decided to take lessons last winter to learn to draw from life, (like you call "plein air"). And NOT draw every little detail. This WDE's are just the challenge I need, to try to capture the essence of a subject as quickly as possible. Like you have to catch the train within 5 minutes. I missed the train this time. But who cares. Reamus looks gorgious.
And all this friendly comments absolutely helps to make improvements. :D

Very good likeness, and at an hour, even more impressive. I've often thought of the WDEs as a great art class. Get your unknown assignment..limited time...comments from class mates. Love it.
