this is two hours worth of Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth woodless graphite pencil, 2b on mechanics board, using a .3 mm mechanical pencil for fine lines and paper stumps for blending........ I'm using my imagination and artists license to continue the drawing outward...... I imagine I'll be working on and off most of the week on this........ What a wonderful array of pictures to choose from....... the WDE is outstanding

Well, if the rest of this is as gorgeous as that eye when you're finished, we're in for a real treat! Very accurate drawing - you must be familiar with horses. :)

You captured his eye wonderfully. that always makes critter artwork that much more wonderful to look at... good job.

Gosh, look at the texture on that soft old leather harness, not to mention the horse! When I was a young girl, I loved to try to draw horses, but was never any good at it (according to parents, anyway, whenever they saw me 'wasting paper'). But you've really figured out this creature's anatomy! Is there going to have another strap where the chest meets the neck? (It looks lighter there.)

I had to check this out when I saw your title. I did it, too, but just drew, nothing fancy. Maybe because I just don't know how. You make him seem much livelier. I see details here that I missed in the photo. But the first lesson is to draw what I see, not what I think. Am glad to see a more advanced version.

He has a lovely gentle look to him. I love horses but wouldn't dream of trying to draw one yet. Looking forward to what you do with the background :)

This is beautiful, you really make me see the soft mouth and nose that horses have - and all without colour. Looking forward to seeing it finished.

I improved the arch and slenderized the neck on this guy, and then did some texture in the trees, bushes, and the fence........ I'll probably tweak it a little more as I look at it over time, but I'll call this a finished piece.......

Very nice finish, Celia. Good tonal control. The horse has nice detail and shading. I like how the head is "framed" by the two trees.

Celia, you've really nailed this Thoroughbred portrait !! Great eye, touchable muzzle, and I like that you've put him in a rather British looking paddock.
I don't think he needs another touch !
