This is my 2nd try. The first was transparent w/c and it was just yucky. I decided to try my new gouaches figuring I could more easily paint over mistakes. I also used a touch of white acrylic. I really started liking this after I pulled out my handy dandy toothbrush and spattered the foreground. I may play with it some more but it's mostly done. 8 x 12 arches. I didn't keep track of the time. I've been fooling around all afternoon.

Good texture to the rocks and convincing color in the trees.

Watercolor is hard, isn't it? Can't cover up the mistakes and hard to change. Well, you stuck with it and turned out a painting. Kudos to you for trying extra hard

Really nice, Kathy. The perspective of the trees lends a lot of depth. The colors of each element go together exceedingly well. Absolutely beautiful job.

It's a BEAUTY!!! I so admire someone who can get strong color with wc, everything just contributes so well...great contrasts!

That's a sign you're in proper right-brain mode! :D I lose track of time when I'm having fun painting. Anyway, whatever time it took, it paid off because this is a stunner!

Kathy, this turned out very well! I love the choice of colors and the softly blended sky. Toothbrush did a nice job for texture....don't stick it back in the bathroom now! ;) :D

thanks everybody for all the encouragement. I woke up this morning and took another look at it sitting on my mantle and I'm really liking it and I think that this time the computer didn't make it look better. It looks better IRL. :)

LOL Wendy, I'm so glad because even though I tend to be a detail person, when I paint I don't like to watch the clock and prefer to let that part of my brain take over. :D

Lovely Kathy - I like the receeding turquoise sky against the trees and then the hot ground. Very successful!

Very nice Kathy! Particulary love how leftmost trees are done, great volume there. It's so inviting, just let me there :D    I believe you are going to add some texture to foreground?
