after enhanced illumination of the floor, not enough was left for the figures.
but that can happen in reality.

you're right, but I couldn't scan the figures and get the book-cases in the background...the painting is better.

I agree with gollator that the composition reminds hopper. I like how the brown turn to violets on the window.

I love Hopper for his imagery: he brought the "real" world to an art world obsessed with style and change and artistry. Everybody in the "art world" loathed him until he died and then, overnight, he became an American hero. I love him for his courage - when he sees a red he sees red! I love him for sticking to his beliefs, painting only what he wanted to.
I am occasionally disappointed by the paint itself. But the imagery, like Gauguin in a funny way, overtakes everything.
Yes. I like Hopper.
