This belongs in a museum. It is ripe and important.
Yes. I like it. Passionately.
:D however, I wish it was bigger, much bigger. :p

Damn, I was afraid of that.
Super visual metaphor.
Wondering...........re tension - if a design element/device of odd number of pears might add more visual "pull" and tension re meaning.........dunno. Just thinkin out loud.

Molly, I struggled with that. I wanted the symmetry. I may, however, add a little more "cable". It needs to sit on the easel a bit more, I think.
Thanks
decisions, decisions, bigger, smaller, pattern, tension. it looks to far gone too fiddle with? I'd call it done; it is beautiful to gaze at. perhaps play with other thoughts on this one in the next one?
bc said; leave off with something you might alter, so you have a thought to begin the next one with.
Think that also helps with a flow maybe? though you hardly need that to hold these together.

Thanks for all your thoughtfulness.
I have to leave it for awhile due to travel. I'll come with fresh eyes and a stack of drawings.

i think the pear is a wonderful symbol for humanity and i enjoy so much seeing how you create a message; different and strong messages using only the pears. i am transfixed by the cable - i luv that part; the twisting
i think in this piece the title expands the meaning of the work - i viewed the painting before i read the title and i got the bound together/interlaced part but then after the title i had a flush of pleasure expanding that into ideas about technology and society
brilliant~!

Here's what I like about the fact that there are 8: that's a power of 2, which is a fundamental idea in computing. At this size, I can also see this as one of a group of 4 (if 3 is a triptych, what's 4?), arrayed as a square, which would yield 32 (as in 32-bit architecture). The next power of 2 (64 -- an array of 8 paintings this size) might be a little overwhelming.
I'm also diggin' the resemblance of the pears -- with the palette and modeling you've used -- to human skulls. It says "brain...mind" to me, and telegraphs the individuality of each pear/cranium, as well as their similarity. Each "head" has its own attitude, its own gesture.
...and the light is like the eerie light of one's monitor in the middle of the night.
Yeah. Night isn't all bad. It's the place of mystery and reconciliation.

Couldn't agree more - AMAZING

Thank you all, I greatly appreciate all your thoughts. The image was born out of my experience with you, here.

I suspect your head is, too. I'd like to run my hand over it some day. Thanks, Keith  :D

You spoke about being shiny pated in another thread.
I guess I'm being the tease now. I'm sorry. It was a shocking thing to say.
Sexy and fecund, huh?
That, for once, was not my intent.

Don't be sorry. I thought it was funny.
In the painting I "see' (for want of something better--I guess it's more of a feeling, or manifestation of my mind) pregnant women, breasts, buttocks. The pears seem to have all these qualities (and yet they are definately pears).

I have come back to this painting so often, I just ought to say something more than I find your concept refreshing and its execution to be devine. That is just so sterile while your painting is not. Maybe I will find words later. I will add that Keith and I must drink the same water because I see nudes and pregnant women in the pears as well!

Sorry jnet, for not answering sooner, I didn't see your last line at first read.
I'm using the word contrivance in reference to the change in composition, from the more traditional "look at me" still life set up, to these less "natural" ones. I was inspired to do so after looking at some of Nancy Graves sculpture. Her "compositions" seem contrived to me, and it works, because it helps to direct the narrative. A contrivance, to me, has some forced element in it. The continuing series will all have such elements, whether it's composition or odd objects juxtaposed.
Somerset, thank you for your kind words.

what he said
i keep coming back as well
the handling of the light catches me
i think i have trouble commenting on your work because
i’m still shocked that someone can use pears as vehicle (for narrative, nonetheless)
without it looking dumb, and with it succeeding at both sincerity and playfulness
that seriously takes skill attention imagination
rereading that, it doesn’t sound right
but i mean it in the best of ways
your work is a pleasure

a solid addition to this series. i was amazed with the first, (those wasps, er yellowjackets were awesome.)
i love the glow you've achieved here and find the symmetry somehow soothing, which may not be what you're after but i dig it.
