Great pics to choose from. Thought I'd try something different for me this week...subject matter and media. This is colored pencil over a very slight acrylic wash. Mat board. 8"x6"...1 hour and 40 minutes...will probably do a little more to it . C&C welcome.

Hi Deano,

I'm so glad you chose this photo. This is my daughter, Hayley, when she was about 3 maybe. She's almost 9. I wasnt sure if anyone would be able to see the ladybug. You've got good eyes! And this portrait looks terrific!!!!

Thank you, Katju. Those were some great photos to choose from, and Haley sure is a cutie. :D

Definitely worth more time! You did a great job catching this 'little lady.' :)

It's hard to believe how quickly you captured this little girls character. Very nice.

Another great one, Deano! I wouldn't have guessed that this is colored pencil - looks like pastel. Very nice!

Lots of brave people trying the children this week.....I'm such a chicken!

looks great!

Totally charming. I missed the ladybug in the ref pic -- glad you paid attention to the details. A soft and lovely portrait.

very nice, it does look like pastels! I like the texturey appearance of the lower part of the shirt. Is the paper toned this way or an accident of lighting? It's pretty effect if so :)

Here it is again after another hr. I'll post both here for comparison purposes.

First post
On the finish, the face isn't as blushing pink IRL...And the background (board)is bluer. Oh well....

It was a pretty accident. The light source made the upper left that light lavender...the support is actually a blue-gray.

Amazin Deano, love everything about this little lady. Her skin tones are great! The folds in her clothes wonderful and her hair is so realistic. You really did marvelously.

Thank you so much, Trish and Judy.

This looks as if you are totally comfortable with both the medium and the subject. Glad to see it adjusted, the colors are so much better. Scanners are a mixed blessing.

05-23-2004, 04:02 PM
Well for some reason my pc isn't loading them completely but from what I can see this is wonderful! Great job!

05-23-2004, 05:10 PM
This is beautiful. No one would guess this is different subject matter or medium for you.

What a wonderful piece! Love her look of concentration on that ladybug. Some interesting features on this: the positioning of her arms, but that one leg slung over the other is really captivating. And you've done 'em all well in capturing this frozen moment.

05-23-2004, 07:24 PM
This is really lovely Deano. :) It is good to try something new.

a lovely piece.... well captured! Children are just divine, aren't they?!

I missed the bug on the original photo, but it all makes sense now !! The whole painting is delightful, but my favourite parts are her wonderfully rendered young child's hands and arms, and the folds in her shirt !  And Kay's light glows here too !
Like Lorna, you master everything you touch ! Well done !
