This is an acrylic on 12 x16 panel, from a new (and learning) painter. It was inspired by a photo of my daughter. The horizon line is horizontal in the real thing, I just did a poor job of photgraphing and cropping. I would welcome any comments and critiques.

Welcome to the Acrylics forum, Jon!
Your palette is terrific!!!
You have also achieved a nice sense of depth!
I think the composition could be more interesting if you introduced more strong vertical shapes.
As it is, the strongest shapes are all horizontal.
Do you know what I mean?
What do you think?

My girls constantly inspire me too! I see what Nina is saying and I cannot help but agree. I must say I do like your painting - it looks sunny and I lot of folks seem not to find that as easy as you have.
Great job... :)

Thanks both. I think you're right. I'm finding "compostion" to be one of the most difficult (challenging) aspects of painting. I have an idea of some of the theory, and I sort of know good composition when I see it, but I guess with time, and helpful input such as yours, it will start to come a little more naturally to me.
