Hi Gang! Since this is an Inspiration forum, I wish I could put into words what is motivating me through my work...but I cant...because its not very clear to me yet. I just keep on keepin' on. Im letting this Art define itself eventually.

One goal of mine is to work towards the edges. A lot of my drawings up till now were "clouds of form" which, to me, were lacking interaction with the edges of the paper. The last run I posted in A&C turned out like wallpaper! lol. Hopefully these will have improved on that a bit.

I would like to thank the mods and members who have supported me posting my work in this forum. Being an artist can be very isolating and I appreciate the feedback and, of course, the INSPIRATION!

I'm intrigued to know:
what medium ? what paper ?
(I'm going through a craze myself with ink(s) ... & can't stop either)

Hi loulou! Where ya been?...Smothered in INK from what I can tell! ;)

I am using various sizes/hardness of willow, vine (Grumbacher, Nitram), and compressed charcoal (Creatacolor Chunky) on Strathmore 300 series drawing paper. I was using the Canson Biggie pad but I find the Strathmore to be more receptive to the charcoal.

Now...lets see some of that ink! ;) :p

Hi loulou! Where ya been?...Smothered in INK from what I can tell! ;)

Thanks for the enlightment, I've got lots of vine that I don't know what to do with, I just might try someting, you're giving me some creative ideas ......
My experience with the &?%/$" Canson has been ... welll ... ?&"¤*%! I no longer use this brand

Yes, I'm inking all over, can't find the off button.
I'm just participating in the spring sketchbook project in the ink forum, project which happened to coincide with a personal resolution I had just made to do something more loose, less structured than the classical drawing in order to make myself not worry about details & speed up, push myself in another direction, prepare for more outdoor sketching.

Most important here:
great creation you've been showing us, fantastic sway of patterns & subconscious moves, I love what you're doing & understand perfectly the reasons you gave, it's important to let loose at some point, we don't necessarily understand the process at once, but it's one of those things that eventually becomes clear to us, once you've gone through the metamorphosis. Hey, it's spring, the perfect time for chrysalis to develop !!!

Hope everything will improve in your world !!!
Keep delighting us !!!

I also bought a spiral bound Canson sketchbook that sucks eggs. It useless for anything but graphite

I love it! Hows it coming along? Are you using sumi-type brushes or pens? I have been itching to try the sumi but with all this damn charcoal around my house Im afraid what the ink will do to my walls/carpet! ;)

We both are working on the same things! :D

Even with graphite I'm having trouble, but my spiral bound has 100 pages ... what do I do ? chuck it ? yea, I think that's what I'll do .......

I'm using mostly pen & nibs (experimenting here), 1 sumi type brush & 2 watercolor brushes & technique on wc paper.
You have to keep your cats out of it though, unless you want to experiment with some paws printing (lol); mine knocked over my water, fortunately I have 3 layers of very heavy duty cardboard over my desk

Sometimes you just got to let the wind(s) blow over ........ winter'll soon be just a bad memory fading .........

And last but not least: I love what Smileawhyl has done with your piece !!! it must warm you up !!!!

1,2,6,8,9 are my favorites in this series. I always see things in your work:) I am glad that you are pushing yourself to work the whole paper. I had a prof that used to tell us we bought the whole sheet, so we should use it....lol Your strokes are well defined with a nice balance of values that give depth to the pieces. Keep it up, Vince!:D

I fumbled with conte and charcoal - the paper doesnt hold a tone worth a darn!

Sounds fun! Someone suggested that I try using powdered charcoal mixed with alcohol...but it didnt go too well. After it dried, I tapped on the paper and watched a plume of black powder rise! I cant store them in that condition.

Arent they lil' trouble-makers? ;) How many do you have, Ive got three :D

Hi Sassy! As always, thank you for the feedback. :) Good advice from that prof; edge to edge - you only need 1/8th inch for matting. I was working on the values and depth so Im happy to know you noticed ;) Thanks for all the encouragement Charissa. :D :music: :D
