Well here it is, After about a 5 year break from painting, Here is my first attempt. It is a portrait of a friend when she was much younger, for her 60th Birthday.

Thank you for your replies, some days I love the way I paint, others I hate it, seem to have a cartoon look, have to keep practicing.
Alice loved it, even got a tear or two out of her, was for her birthday yesterday.

At a guess this lady must have a sunny happy disposition and you've captured that in her smile and in her eyes. Some people are realist painters, others abstract, some impressionistic - go with what you have been given and thank the powers that be that you have a talent - so what if its not the same as the next person. Thats the work that always stands out - the different and unique. well done :clap:
I agree wholeheartedly with Christine. All of my paintings come out looking like picture book illustrations. At first it bugged the heck out of me but now I'm really liking it. Embrace the results of your efforts! I, personally, love this painting! Relays the joyous spirit she obviously possesses. Keep up the good work!
