Talking of the drama of the sea, here's a couple of attempts to capture a wave! :)

Critique welcome!

Hi Peter,
The loose strokes and splashes of colour again very successful in portraying the energy and movement, the wildness of the waves. Well done.

You have really captured the force and vitality of the ocean.Lovely use of colour too,you look like you are a very relaxed painter.I'm trying to be.
Well done.
Jane.

Thanks Marty & Gillette!

The first one was done with a lot of masking fluid, which results in a lot of action - maybe too much? For this reason, I used no masking fluid in the second one, trying to get a more solid wave.

I suppose "success" is finding the right balance - as in most things! :)

Sorry - it's a while since I did these paintings, and I see that I must have used a bit of masking fluid in the second, especially to get the spray on top of the wave.

I enjoyed painting them!

It's always a challenge trying to capture the forces of nature! :)

Thanks Lisa!

maybe you'd like to read the comment I just made on the "Supply & Pilot Boats" thread. I think that could also apply here.

Would be interested in your (and other's) opinions in this respect.
