When shipping pastels, do you recommend plexiglass vs/ glass? What are the pros/cons other than the weight issue. . . Does plexiglass alter the appearance of the pastels?
Thanks for helping a newbie,
Also, I have a few pastels framed w/o mats. Do the majority of artists use a mat w/ pastels?

Ship using plexi, and have the recipient change to regular glass upon receipt of the painting. Before placing plexi on the painting, lightly tap the loose pastel from the paper or board you worked on. Try to use at least a double mat with the plexi. Plexi is not permanent as it scratches and more importantly, causes static which pulls pastel away from your painting surface and up onto the glass. Best case scenario...ship the piece directly to a framer on the receiving end and have them change to glass.
Yes, the majority of painters frame away from the glass. You can press the painting right up to the glass, but you risk "ghosting" of your painting if you remove it later, moisture buildup because of no air circulation and/or smearing. In addition, using an ammonia-based product to clean the glass leaves a residue that can harm your painting.
