I made my own headpins, now I'm wondering how to hammer them? How would I hold the headpin still so I could hammer it?

Hammer it which way? Do you mean to flatten the round ball on the end, so it looks more like the commercial ones?

Hold it very, very carefully! :D Sorry, couldn't resist! Could you tape it down? Do you want to hammer just the end? I have a ball pein hammer and I could hold a two inch headpin and still hammer ONLY the headpin end and still leave the fingers intact. :p

You can drop the straight part of the headpin through a hole in a drawplate until just the ball is sitting flush against the drawplate, then hammer the ball to be flat like a commercial headpin. (Will look like driving in a nail.) Should only take one good whack, or two lighter ones to give you a nice low-profile headpin.

Or, if you don't have a drawplate, you could hold it in a vise (vice?), once again, upside down, and hammer it flat that way.
