View Full Version : Fixative Question

I keep hearing about using workable fixative to prevent wax blloom on CP drawings. Can I use the fixative that I use to seal my graphite drawings or is there a specific fixative that I need to look for?
I have read the labels on both and cannot see that there is a great deal of difference in the ingredients (such as they are). The labels on both the workable fixative and the "final" fixative do not mention CP anywhere.

Thanks, I was afraid to risk my drawings. The ones that have worked have been sheer luck so far.:p

Eeeks, I only have the workable fixative and that's what I've been using with no troubles, have not heard of the other kind, glad to know I don't need to know! LOL :)

What is wax bloom? I use fixative with pastels and charcoal only.

If you work with wax based colored pencils such as prismacolors, eventually the wax from the pencil will "rise" to the surface of the drawing and create a haze over the drawing.
By spraying with fixitive, it prevents the wax from appearing and also "removes" it if it does show up. It brings back the rich colors of the colored pencils.

Thanks for the info on wax bloom. I will give my paintings a spray.

Since this thread is in the sticky threads, I'm just linking another to this one so the info is all in one place.
