View Full Version : Sending pastels

Hi, Im a longtime reader first time poster and I have a pastel painting(my first)done on canvas board that I would like to send to an upcoming art contest.

I will be sending it from hawaii to somewhere in the vicinity of Michigan

What do I need to do to prepare it for the long and perhaps hot trip it has ahead of it.

Will it melt?

Will it smear?

These are the things I am wondering.

Thank you in advance

-Svendalina(not my real name)

p.s. forgive me if the answers to this query has been posted before

You asked whether the painting would smear -- are you framing it first? Is it behind glass or plexi? It should not smear if it is framed.

Why would you think it would melt -- is it soft pastel or oil pastel? What is the size? There is a good box sold by Air Float Systems for pastel paintings. Look for them on the web - I think we even have a link here at WC. They are not cheap, but your painting is not cheap either!

This is just a small amount of advice. Good luck!

Also, be certain it is delivered to a person by name. Contact this person before you ship so they know to expect it and can uncrate for you.

I wonder if you should send your 1st work in any medium to a competition?
