Hi there,

I'm looking for tutorials or books about how to crochet silver wire. In an earlier post there was a book on amazon shown in a previous post but the link wasn't valid. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Lisa

Lisa

I'm not going to be much help here because I have a similar problem. I recently saw a book on how to crochet silver wire at Barnes & Nobel in Asheville. When I went back to get it, a week or so later, it was gone and I have no idea what the name of it was. :( The entire book was devoted to making chains.

Perhaps you might want to check the craft section at your B&N.

This won't help too much, but sometime in the last 2 years there was an article in Bead and Button about this. I whipped up a necklace in no time and it was very easy.

I thought this book was good:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1579900933/103-7178074-1440619?v=glance

I had checked it out from my library, I thought it taught fine silver wire crochet, but now I'm reading the Amazon reviews, and they are all saying knitting. (I thought it was crochet, I could be remembering wrong)

Well, this won't really help with crocheting, but I have a book:

Great Wire Jewelry; Projects and Techniques by Irene From Peterson (Lark Books)

It doesn't have crocheted wire, but it has Viking Knitted wire, Braids, and Knitting on 3 Nails, as well as chain and jewelry made from jump rings. The book was $14.95 ($21.95 Canadian) at Borders.

A Bead and Button article was mentioned at some point in this thread. Here is a link to Bead and Button's article (http://www.beadandbutton.com/bnb/default.aspx?c=a&id=264) called 'Fast and fabulous'. It is in the Feb. 2002 issue. The article is about corcheting an embellished wire necklace.

This link will not work if you are not a member of their site. It is free to join and you just have to enter a user name and password. Then they send you an email with a code...etc., etc.

Here is a link to Bead and Button's Home Page (http://www.beadandbutton.com/) where you can become a member of their site.

Bead and Button is very helpful finding patterns for you. If you contact them they will do a human pattern search for you. (You should search their archives yourself before you ask them to do it for you.) They have even sent me a patten that I couldn't find online but described. It turned out it was not published online and had been in a back issue that was no longer available. I think if the pattern you are looking for is in a still available back issue they will suggest that you buy the back issue.

Thanks for starting this thread and all of you who contributed links and book ideas because I have also been wanting to learn this technique also.

thank you for choosing my jewelry as eye candy!

i actually just finished another photoshoot with more recent work, and will be adding it to the site shortly.

as far as tutorials go, i've had a heck of a time finding anything. there *is* a book by can-do crafts out there that's like $8 to purchase, but most of what i did was just experimenting.

if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Hey Alyska - Welcome!

So all we have to do is list a bunch of our fav jewelry artists and they will start posting over here? How cool!

Can't wait to see your newest stuff - thanks for letting us know :)

Here's another .pdf downloadable article from the Feb 2003 Bead & Button magazine:
http://www.beadandbutton.com/bnb/default.aspx?c=a&id=755
Beaded rope by Sylvia Sur.
A crocheted necklace complements a hand-carved bead. "Use ladder stitch to start a four-bead crocheted rope. Finish the ends with silver cones and add a centerpiece bead with a decorative tendril of seed beads."

Hi Lisa,

There's a really good book I purchased at Hobby Lobby called "Great Wire Jewelry" by Irene From Peterson. I'm sure you could special order it through one of your local bookstores.
