Hello everyone,

This is my first serious attempt at Photography, I am strictly a newbie when it comes to Photography and there is so much to learn about this medium.

Can anyone offer there opinion or comments to help me get started.

The camera is a sony cybershot, print size 8 x 12, I choose black and white because I felt it added more feeling and emotion to the picture.

Thank You, RShaver

Well you're off to a great start. I think it could use a tiny bit mors contrast but that's just a personal choice, nothing wrong with it like it is.

I like the concept. I agree it needs contrast enhancement, and I'm trying to figure out if the lack of detail is due to oversharpening.

Hi RS,

Welcome to the Darkroom! This is a nicely composed shot of a wonderful formation. As for tips... One thing most photographers find objectionable is a blown highlight. To avoid this, we try to expose for the highlights and let the shadows fall where they may.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

An excellent photo.. well composed, good exposure.. the right side seems a bit overexposed, but that isn't unusual with strong sun, which I can tell you had to deal with..

Did you do anything other than convert to grayscale? Exactly how did you convert to a B&W shot?
