Very nice.... I can feel the wind. Good job.

You've drawn a very pleasing scene from your imagination, Lori and it's beautifully executed, right down to the birds on the beach.

I just have one tiny criticism. As Dee says, I can feel the wind* trouble is I'm not sure where from. The trees and the white horses on the waves would indicate wind travelling from right to left (as viewed) but the scudding clouds, especially at low level, give the opposite impression.

Lori..My chin just hit the floor. I think this is gorgeous. 24X30...my oh my...must look quite striking in the room. Your composition really draws in the viewer. 'Love those two egrets and the ocean beyond. How many tubes of white went into this one? ;)

I really like this one, Lorijo. You can see the wind, like was already said, and it's very "calming".

The only thing I MIGHT change on this one, if it where mine, would be to add a little bit of depth to the blue patch of sky on the upper left side. It looks to be all one tone, while the rest of the image is filled with tones, shades, colors, and depth. But thats a really minor thing.

Thanks Dee, Velda, Jamie and Crissy! Velda, its one of those winds from the southwest, its blowing the middle of the clouds toward the left. :D I hope so anyhow! I have seen where the wind can be blowing in one direction up high in the sky and the other way on the ground too.

Crissy, some of the depth and texture got lost in the photography, it looks better in real life.

Jamie, thanks so much, not that much white, 2 oz. at the most. Lorijo

Absolutely beautiful. I should take a hint from you and try to paint something just "made up". I think we all perhaps have images in our head if we just tap into it. Do more!

Thanks Marcy I will, its fun. Lorijo

I woudn't doubt it, happens a lot with my own pictures :)

I forgot to say something else ... I absolutly love the way the waves seem to transfer through the clowds, kind of like the motion flowing through everything. It's really pretty that way.

I wish I could paint clouds as well as you do!

03-29-2004, 09:30 AM
Thanks Crissy and Loretta! Its easy Loretta, all with a knife, just sketch where clouds go and put the blue in, put a mixture of whites, oranges, reds etc. for the clouds. Then little circular strokes to make the puffyness at the tops and smeary strokes at the bottom of the clouds. Very light touch at the end. Lorijo

Hi Lorijo,
Well, you asked for critiques and I tried really hard to find something I could hit on but failed dismally. Sorry. Possibly the one criticism is that it is not hanging on my wall. :D
What can I say but

04-08-2004, 08:47 AM
Thanks so much Marty, you have no idea how I needed that critique! It just got turned down by a juried art show. One of my other paintings got in and I don't think it is the better of the two. Lorijo

I am really impressed with this one , I said before I like the way you do clouds. It looks to me like the wind suddenly changed direction. The sky has a perfect effect. I saved it as wallpaper on my pc so I can study it further.I know that winds can do stange things on the ocean. You captured some great action in this painting. As someone said you can almost feel the wind. I think the whole painting is great. Don't change a thing. Just my opinion.

Thanks so much Brian. I like the painting as it is, I won't change it. I just visited your website and you have some beautiful paintings. I like your skies too. Lorijo

 helloundefinedundefinedYou do great work. Could you please tell me what colors you mixed for you sand colors?

04-17-2004, 08:50 AM
Hi Marilyn and Welcome to Wet Canvas! What do you mean by Undefined?

I get my sand from what ever mud is left on the palette, mix everything together and add a little to white. I am not sure, the painting is in my gallery but I usually use sap green, cad orange light, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, white, hansa yellow, alizarin crimsom and cad red medium. Lorijo

That "undefined" is just what they put in the fields for larger text etc, and it stays there if we don't type something else over it.
