Walkin' the Dog

Mike and I took our dogs for a walk this morning. I brought along the D60 with only one lens, the 75-300mm because I was going hawk-hunting. Well, no hawks, but here are some of our spring-beginners here in Southern California.

1. The view across the canyon from our front gate. The yellow patches are wild mustard blossoms which are just beginning to cover our hills about now.

2. Erythrina blossoms from our huge tree that forms a canopy over the road.

3. Next-door neighbor's front yard. These tiny flowers grow on tall bushes. No idea what they are.

4. Fungi just under one of the above flowering bushes.

Just vibrant. California must have a lot of plants that aren't familiar with the southeast.

Vunderbar!I was thinking the little blue flowers were my fave but the fungi with the contrasting color flowers laying about is running neck & neck! I like the first one except the white house is a little overexposed. The red is gorgeous in both cases but I forgot the Wisteria which smella like heaven on earth to me and reminds me of living in Knoxville, TN! :clap: :cool: :clap: :D I 'd love to take a walk like this one GF! :D

They're ceanothus, Ariadne -- bees love them and there are many different varieties in various shades of whites and blues. It's sometimes called California Lilac, although it's not related at all.

Anyway, regardless of what any of them is called, your photos are lovely; I really like the saturated colors and you've cropped them beautifully!

Beautiful photo's Eileen. My own favourites are #3, #5, and #6. Love the colours in those ones, and you've captured them perfectly. Great series.

Thanks, Sunny. I took the first one with an eye towards painting it in miniature. You're right about the house but I don't have a clue how to fix only one area in a pic. I really need to get back to my PS tutorial. (Where does the time go?) The last pic is perfect in my system, beautifully sharp, but when transferred to WC, it looks somewhat blurry on my monitor. I thought of oversharpening it for WC, but was too tired by that time. LOL.

#5's my favourite too Eileen~absolutely gorgeous :clap: Thank heavens for spring eh? Amyrillis is wonderful too, and here I thought they only grew in pots! The light on it is perfect, it's a very close second and only because I love wisteria so much :D

yes five is it for me too. our wisteria is blooming here right now too. we have had really warm weather for this time of year. but then the fingi is really quite interesting as well...so fun to see up close.

Thanks for taking us along on your walk Eileen even if it is only photographically,the wonderful photos make it seem so real. #2 and #6 are my favourites if only from the fact that I know just how hard it is to shoot red flowers.

Ah, Carrie, trust you! LOL! I knew someone would ask that question. Well, all of the oldtimers here have seen both my dogs--Cinnamon Chow: Dancer, and Mixed Terrier (Schnauzer most evident), Tess. I'll dig up or take more pix of them to show next walk. (Tomorrow, A.M.) :D

Lovely shots, # 3,5 & 6 are my faves. I'm a sucker for saturated colours and black backrounds :D
