I have got to get a digital camera. Sorry for the terrible stitching job here...I hadn't tried it before ( and probably shouldn't have now!). I have very little work small enough to fit on my scanner.

This is 18 x 24 on red Mi Tientes, in pastel. I was unable to get all of his head and feet in. Trying to get back into the swing of it...life class starts in another few weeks for the fall term.

Which part would you say has the closest colour to the actual piece?

As for as I can tell, the shading is great - the shape is well defined.

But skin tones stay the same right through, making it look as if it's made of plastic, or it's covered by an inch of makeup.

That could be the scan though - and each patch seems to be a different colour, so your scanner is playing tricks on us.

Thanks for your comments Nathan.

Probably the first section (head, hands) is closest in colour....but, I did have some trouble. The model was heavily tanned, and I couldn't get it quite right. I also have a lot to learn still about tone, and getting my darks dark. Tend to stay with everything mid-tone, and I think that is what has happened here.

Don't think I will try again to scan something in pieces. Yuck! I'll have to try to work smaller...but I really find that difficult.

Sigh

No no no!
Don't change how you draw because of a scanner!

Just... erm... think of some way to get your large works onto the computer. LOL

Find a friend who has a digital camera, see how well that works for you. I don't like to photograph my works, but I work small, so a scanner works for me, and thus I never spent time to perfect taking photos of my drawings.
