Hold on a second....I have to pull my jaw off the floor and close my mouth before the flys think they can have a feast day!

Truly wonderful...if I had anything to say it would be to tone the stem down a hair...my daughter noticed it too.

She said it's really good! The iris is real lifelike...gotta love that kid!

Um...how big?

Ive painted a lot of realist flowers before...Just like the ones with the dark backgrounds...Ive been told I need to lighten up but I hate em for some reason....Just dont like it!....Below are Roses I painted a year or so ago and gave to Arlene for a gift...and an orchid.....both in oil paints

Thanks everyone!

And

Arlene tell that youngun a big thanks for me and tell her I'll tone it down some!....Must be my old age and eyes gettin bad LOL!

It really went fast doing white cause a lot of it didnt have to be touched and what did was only lightly worked on....Since I used acrylic for the background it was super fast!..about 10 minutes.....I need to find a source of colored papers for the colored pencils....use the acrylics for backgrounds you can crank one out per day if you stay busy

I think I used 6 different pencils on this....not too bad.

The iris is absolutely beautiful. The roses are great too but the iris is my favorite.

Simply awesome!!! I love flower paintings. I mostly do equine stuff but not one is on my walls in my home--just flowers.

Okay, I've put the Mozart on, now what.......?

..this has got to be a photo! Oh My god! I am in awe. There is just nothing to describe this! It is just wonderful! You are so good!!
Only 6 hours? I take 3 hours to draw one of my piddly little knights! hehehe.
I like the black. I think it helps the flowers to look much more realistic because it allows them to be translucent in places. There is a woman in my are who paints the most wonderful native birds and they are all done on Black, so don't worry about it. :)
Wonderful!

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

I framed the Iris and took it to a show over the weekend....Saturday I had about 1000 people walk by the table and almost everyone remarked about the flowers I had done!

About 500 remarked that the price I had on the photograph of the iris was a really high! Until I handed it to them and watched their chins hit the floor....when you stick it in someones face...REAL close you can tell its a cp drawing!

What was best was when a lot of the ladies looked and did the chin drop thing....they couldnt say anything.....they totally lost it LOL!!!...kept looking at me and then the iris....mouth wide open!!! Was soooo funny!

Lots wanted it but couldnt afford it.....I'm sort of glad I got to keep it!

I was painting two portraits at the time and got lots of possibles on portraits for this winter

Soon I'll post another iris.....this time blue and yellow!

Wow! my hand hurts just looking at this piece of perfection.

I read all, but didn't note if you said you painted this from life or a photo?

Also, could you please elaborate on using acrylic on the background.... at what point do you do this, before or after painting subject? What sheen of acrylic do you use to keep continuity?

I'm just learning CP, thanks for indulging me.

Hi Suzxz,

I used a coat of acrylic with just a little water added to make for a nice flat ...almost totally dull finish....after everything was done I coated it all with an matte acrylic fixative.

I drew the iris from a photo....

Thanks and Good luck!......You can do this good too..just take your time and NEVER hurry!.....It will just fall into place for you some day!

Great work Beau!! You've certainly captured the delicacy of the petals! You've even captured the degrees of their transparency! Wonderful control of the pencils.
