Crossed posted from Pastels. This is soft pastels on terra cotta Art Spectrum paper, 9x12.
This is painted from a photo I took last summer in Portland, Maine at Fort Williams Park. Gorgeous place...fabulous rocks. I hope I caught it a bit anyhow!
Comments welcome...thanks for looking!

a turtle's head in them

:D Well I had commented in the Pastels Forum that I saw an Egyptian looking face on the left about halfway down...I assume that is the turtle head you see. Or...is there another face here? :D

Thanks for looking!

Hi Sandy,
You have done a great job on those rocks, very impressive, and I particularly like the way you have carried the rock colour through to the sea, it has really made the piece. There is a face there but I can't decide what, a long face with an Egyptian style hat sounds about right. Well done.

lets see if I can find that Egyptian

He's on the left, about halfway up the painting... the long, tall rock which is actually the top rock on that side. Once you see him you won't be able to lose it! :D

Sandy this is a very lovely piece.
I'm not a pastelist, but I can see how you incorporated the colour of your paper to bring the whole piece together.
The splashing waves on the rock is excellent.

As for faces....
I see them everywhere! :D

The rocks are fantastic...and I like how you carried the colours through the water as well. Water works well too...especially the spray.

You've done a super job on the rocks and the surf, Sandy. I think that's what makes good rocks - the fact that you can *see* things in them that aren't there (if you see what I mean  )

Sandy, I like your bright, bold pastel. Nice use of color.
