I've decided its high time to begin putting together a workshop of my own. I've traveled, will continue to travel and such to instruct workshops, but I have as a painter and educator all of what would make a great painting workshop right here.

I have access to my classroom during the summer for morning session premers before heading out to paint. We have bed and breakfast places, a beautiful Casino Lodge about 15 minutes south of us here, various motels, places to eat and such...so ammenities are suffficient.

The Nicolet National Forest enjoys 1200 lakes and streams and endless forest vistas of deciduous and pine mixes. An endless source for painting subject matter. Inclement weather would give us access to my classroom...but intent would be to go to area/nearby locations, set up and paint directly from nature...well known today as plein air.

My area is about 30 minutes south of Iron River, Michigan...40 minutes east of Rhinelander, Wisconsin and the same distance west of Pembine, Wisconsin and about 1 hour 45 minutes north of Green Bay.

I received a shot in the arm to go on with this when I received word from an art teacher in southern Wisconsin interested in taking any workshop put out and a number of other teachers that would come along...not as teachers, but as painting students for the week.

I'm brainstorming right now...but as time goes along here I'll provide more concrete information. This would become an annual workshop I would imagine.

I'm thinking something along the line of starting on a Wednesday, paint with instructions for three days, critiques and so forth...then the option to stay and participate the Saturday and Sunday following in a paint out. I am fairly confident one of the galleries my work is in 26 miles from here would be interested in hosting the event. This would give a chance to invite the public, gain exposure....maybe even sell a piece or two!

Again...all just in the works right now...
anyone curious can check out my website to see my work or glean over some of the demo's posted there...

later, peace

Sounds interesting Larry. I'm not sure I will be able to participate because my schedule is already pretty full but I will be interested in knowing more about it. And, if it's an annual thing -- my 2005 calendar isn't nearly as full as 2004.
