Hi :) i'm a newbie here and still haven't understood everything about this awesome site :)

I'm so called digital artist, working with my photos: filters, cloning, repainting etc etc :) i know that i can do whatever i want with my own pictures and sell them after that (if anyone would risk to buy such things! ^_^) but how can i use the images from your library? if i take a picture from here and change it, say, into digital painting, or collage or whatever, is it concidered to be the same picture that i took from here (with copyright to its owner) or it is already MY picture? i like to change photos into paintings and it takes me more than one Photoshop filter to do it :D actually it takes me more than Photoshop ^_^

so i am pretty confused... for traditional artists it's much easier: they can't be blamed with simple filtering of the original picture :) i can be blamed, though i never just ... filter :)

what am i supposed to do?

Photographs in the library are there to use copyright free.

Digital work is given the same respect as any other medium. You may take any photo in the library and create your own work of art from it and do with it what you wish.

What you can never do, is claim the original photo as your own. This applies to all media.

I've done a bit of digital work myself, I know how much goes into the process of it!

Thank you, Ivy :)

Now I feel really well :) because the thing i'd do last is to steal others' work, even without knowing it :) I'm just a beginner but i already know how much heart and hard work is put into creating something special, and how bitter it is when someone else claims the rights to this piece.

I'm sure i will get a pot of inspiration here, on WetCanvas! !!! ^_^ i mean a lot :D I already got an immense amount of knowledge from here!

Thank you for the site and the gallery, and wait for the uploads from me!!!

I assume, from the discussion that the modified photo can be used in business publications, etc?

All derivative works are the property of the person who created it.

You may sell, show, throw darts at, etc., any image that you create. The derivative work is yours to do with as you wish.

I think a very nice "custom" practiced around here is when an artist does complete a work inspired by a photo in the image lib, they contact the photographer/poster usually with a picture of the artwork attached, perhaps mentioning what inspired them.

Not only is it nice to "thank you" but it can be very thrilling to realize that a photo of yours provided inspiration.
