A while back I posted a piece that I was having trouble completing. I wanted to make reference to Gauguin and I asked for help and got wonderful ideas and suggestions from the members. http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14556
I spent weeks trying to implement them and nothing worked. I must have repainted the piece 15 times. The paint surface became ugly and slick. I became incredibly frustrated. Nothing was right. The piece got tighter and tighter and it was clear that I had entered a wrestling match in which I was losing. Nothing seemed genuine. Last night in an explosion of frustration and while listening to Dave Matthews (Crash)I gave up and reworked the entire piece. It transformed completely. I'm still working on it. I'm not sure I like it but oddly enough I feel better about it. My work is in transition and the changes are painful and slow and clumsy.

Here is where I started. The whole feels like a necessary failure. think.

this is bizzare cause I'm embarking on a piece after Gauguin....

I liked the 'incomplete' piece, and I like it now... she seems to be some sort of mermaid... I don't know, Its not all bad....

SanDL:

The pose is terrific, I too like Deeva and you am working on a Gaughin inspired piece. My only advice might be to work some more color into the hair. I looked over some Gaughin from this link, and he really does add subtleties to even how he works hair... http://www.abcgallery.com/G/gauguin/gauguin-3.html

But I am sure you know that... you spoke in another thread about being inspired by nature. I used a "sponge" effect on this typical photograph to break down the color patterns, thought it might give you some helpful inspiration...

good luck, Bobby
