I am wondering (bear with me :p ) do oil pastel paintings need to be framed under glass like soft pastel.
I have never even held an oil pastel but am curious about them after seeing so many impressive works.
thanks

Hi angie...catching the bug maybe??? Yes, they need to be framed under glass. They will get a skin but they will never completely dry and so even though they are fairly tough after awhile, a good push to the surface could mess them up...and you can't wipe them clean. Ha...you were thinking...oooh, something I don't have to worry about framing....weren't you??? :D

alright!! Actually there is a spray glaze fixative...but I don't recommend it, if too much gets on it actually starts to disolve the pastel, like turps would..I tried it on a throw away.
